Was moe a mistake?

Nah. No point in consuming Japanese media if there was no moe. (Just my opinion though.)

Moe is something that occurs naturally, nobody created it.

moe is okay in quantities, fun things are fun, as time progresses it gets easier to group shows into specific genres due to unoriginality and overflow of just shows in general over time,
but being able to label a character in a show as a cliche'd stereotype would be frowned upon by someone who's seen it many of times and seen it progress over the ages
( that is unless they've become numbed to it over the years or are watching it "ironically" ) and a cliche only grows and grows with time due to it having similarity to certain character's personality traits appearing in shows or mere coincidences,
so "moe" is a sub-group, however it would have existed in one form or another due to just grouping through human nature, so it can't be a mistake if it would have happened anyway.
love it or hate it, its still a thing, just wait till we get to a point where we can even further group them! i was thinking of something that ends in Dere or--- oh wait...
