In some ways yes but they are limited in support and functionality
I'm gonna copy this thread on /g/
What was the advantage DOS had over it's predecessors?
>>1414089
God no. You're out of your gourd if you think so, and I would happily direct you to your tailor made TempleOS.
>>1414560
What predecessors? COBAL and BASIC programming? You would have to program it yourself or load it off a floppy disk or a cassette tape every time you booted, which could take hours.

>COBAL
COBOL

It had Norton.
>>1414572
I heard from my Father that Norton's really good.
>>1414579
The funny thing is that back in the DOS era, Norton actually was pretty good.

I still think there's more to the "retro look" than just being retro.
I think there's much much more to it than just being outdated or nostalgic.
There's something about simple computer graphics that speaks to our logical minds.
For example, seeing images in 16-bit reveals underlying patterns and logic used to render the image that is somehow pleasant to that part of the human mind which seeks patterns and information.
Same thing with older GUIs that have more clear defined simple borders and divisions.
It's a shame everyone takes these unique styles and only thinks of them as "retro" or that nobody would ever like them except for "nostalgia".
What TUI do you have installed?
