basically /co/ mods really don't like general threads, to the point that if any show has every reached the popularity of getting a general thread there, threads risk getting deleted, so large parts of the board have just migrated to /trash/, I guess there was also the meltdown that lead to the creation of /mlp/ too

Let me try to explain the mods reasoning behind this. 24/7 eternal general threads are shit and proof of this is when Homestuck and MLP had one. They all became communities that were not only separate from the usual user in /co/ but also 4chan. Removal of generals was a necessary since after /mlp/'s creation, every cartoon show was making a general or getting shoved into one. /trash/ is the best option for generalfags since all they really want is porn pics and erotic fanfics of various characters. The rest of the fans just make threads about the shows including the ones that are on /trash/. I don't see how that makes /co/ worse than the board that made general threads popular in the first place, and had to make a separate board just to contain their generals along with making a pokemon board for similar reasons.

One simple thing - It doesn't treat console wars (other things too, but primarily console wars) as a negative part of its culture. Shitposting is rewarded too much.

Console wars are inherently destructive, and they're seen as "bad", but they're also seen by many as just part of /v/ (see "this is /v/, what do you expect"). Be it ironic or genuine, they represent something that can and almost always does bring arguments to any discussion on /v/.

Compare this to /a/ where inherently negative shit is generally frowned upon (the entire "/board/ hates <board subject>" line will get you ridiculed on /a/, while on /v/ it's treated as if it's genuine). This doesn't make /a/ a magical place where no one shitposts, but it does mean that people who are destructive to conversation are told to fuck off, ignored or it's otherwise made clear they're not wanted.

tl;dr - culture celebrates and normalizes destructive levels of shitposting too much, so people think it's okay to do it genuinely, resulting in a net worsening of discussion across the board
