What kind of politics do aliens practice?

>And why the fuck hasn't SETI or SETI@home found anything?

There are only 6 planets in the entire galaxy(?) that are suitable to carbon based life including our own. Our planet is the only planet that is likely to have any form of intelligent life and the other 5 planets would be the only planets likely to use radio signals (as we are carbon based life and we developed them, also we would have no idea what form of communication other forms of life would use).

Basically we are extremely likely to be the only species to use radio signals.
>>
>>61017789

Aliens are an emotion crutch. It is terrifying to assume that we are the only living, intelligent beings in the entire universe and that if humanity should die out the universe would go on existing without ever knowing pain, pleasure, logic or anything at all, ever again.

Who knows what tech aliens use for communication.

We've only had radio tech for what, 70 years? I'm not entirely sure. What I am sure of radio and tv signals travel out into space from Earth.

Who knows, maybe aliens are parked in the band we sent out during the 70's and 80's listening to some sweet ass tunes.

Reptilians are ruled by army with a militarist culture. Always trying to make others their vassals.

Pleiadians are monarchists eugrnists(not in the bad sense). They monarchs reborn inside the next generations, letting only the most advanced.spiritualy to rule

>>61018667

It is terrifying for people to assume that they are alone in the universe, so people created the idea of a God. They twist observations to their own desire to claim to prove something that is literally unprovable.

People who believe in aliens and people who believe in Gods are all cowards too afraid to face reality as it exists.
>>
Because we're probably the only intelligent life in the galaxy, maybe the universe.

Also because you can't really expect radio waves to be detectable as actually intelligible signals after hundreds of light years.

There doesn't have to be a point. Even if there were aliens out there, we cannot travel faster than the speed of light, so it would take many an incredibly long time to get anywhere.

I don't need the belief in any other entities to make it through my life. I don't need the assurance of some imaginary god that I will go to heaven to live a good life. I don't imagine the existence of aliens and spent my days hoping they will come to Earth and improve my life. I need no emotional crutch.
>>
Maybe the aliens are waiting for humans to have a hugely destructive world war and then they might come in afterwards to harvest the rest.

If you can watch a planet from afar and monitor their behavior it would be much easier to conquer a planet after they have been weakened fighting each other.

Or there are benevolent extra terrestrial civilizations awaiting this immature world to join the galactic community.

There are many possibilities.

Uncertainties around this equation is our understanding of the evolution of life, intelligence, and civilization, not physics. No statistical estimates are possible for some of the parameters, where only one example is known. The net result is that the equation cannot be used to draw firm conclusions of any kind, and the resulting margin of error is huge, far beyond what some consider acceptable or meaningful.

One of the going theories is that it will indeed expand infinitely. That does not mean that there are infinite possibilities. The more it expands, the less dense it becomes which actually dramatically reduces the number of possibilities. Also, there is a finite amount of mass in the universe, so even the possible combinations of all possible orientations of molecules is finite. Fuck off with your pseudo-science wishful thinking bullshit.
>>
>>61017789
>And why the fuck hasn't SETI or SETI@home found anything?

Modern (human) communications are all encrypted. If you look at them without the key, they look like noise. There was only a very short period of human history where we broadcast unencrypted signals out into space, so expecting to find another civilisation going thru the same brief window like SETI does is pretty futile.

tl;dr- Law of Big Numbers.

What if we are really alone in the universe, or that we're the only planet with anything more complex than amino acids and mud?

I know it would be hard to prove, because you can never have evidence of absence in a constantly expanding space, but how would people react to this? Would it be an epiphany, making people realize that we have to cherish our planet and our time here, or would it make people freak out that nothing bigger than themselves was 'out there' to guide them or take them in after they die?

that we exist, I think the sole fact we exist proves it's possible for other sentient life to exist within an ever expanding universe.

does that mean they've been here? Possibly, I look at it as if we as humans found a planet with life we'd go check it out too and probably keep out of their affairs as best we could.

Now obviously there's a possibility we might be the furthest advanced race currently but that doesn't mean there isn't life out there.

Either way I just can't see us being the only living things in the entire universe.

there are of course more than 6 planets in the galaxy capable of life, just by the statistics. but that isn't the dumb statement.

radio waves are given off by everything. it is one of the 4 forces. it is one of the most fundamental parts of science. if an alien civilization does pretty much anything it is going to start giving off radio waves. yea they probably won't be able to pick up our FM broadcasts, or NTSC TV broadcasts. but if they are listening they would be able to tell it isn't back ground noise. and the same with us.

Hey OP here's the actual answer.

You the see the attached map? Okay, our current radio telescope tech could pick up a hugely powerful beacon deliberately directed right towards the sun from a pretty good ways across that disk. Assuming somebody 30,000 light years away miraculously knows where to point it.

But the real question here is, across what distance could we pick up another planet's radio emissions, assuming they were generally about as strong as the Earth's?

You see the tiny little blue dot that represents 200 light years? The answer, right now, is about one-two hundredth of that dot.

That's how far away SETI at home is seeing, in the absence of huge directed beacons being pointed at us.

If they build the square kilometer array, it will be able to pick up Earth-level radio from about one tenth the width of that dot.

Well another theory is that the universe will collapse back in on itself due to gravity.

Adding, according to the law of conservation of mass, no matter is created or destroyed.

If it were true we, the general population, would not.

Doesn't quantum mechanics theorise the creation of matter from nothingness?
>>
>>61045311

Quantum mechanics, in absence of other circumstances, does not allow for matter to appear. It only gives rise to virtual particles. In order to generate real particles we need real energy. That energy has to come from somewhere, even with QM being at work. One can, pro forma, account for the positive energy of matter with a negative energy term assigned to the background to make a zero balance, but that's just an accounting trick to make the current cosmological model work. It is by no means clear where this energy term comes from or what physical meaning it has.

>we're the pioneers
>humans being pioneers of anything

Don't mean to burst your bubble but for the time the universe has been around, humans missed out on 99.9999 percent of time. We're way late to the party.

Time hides everything. If there was a civilization in our solar system, all of its traces have been lost millions of years ago. Watch this documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUqHECc5rPo
All it takes is a couple of thousand years and all traces of humans are lost forever...
Exept the ones on the moon of course. Wich will be there for millions of years.

Late to what party? There's no plan. We could be the first, the last, or the only intelligent life.

Beyond ~14 billion light years away? I suppose, but then why aren't there any in the ~30 billion cubic light years we can see?

Stop. Just stop.

There are trillions upon trillions of starsome with rocks floating around them. Even if it was a .01 percent chance they had life, the universe is teeming with it. Life finds a way.

Also don't forget the age of the universe. Or the fact that there is the universe and then the observable universe. Who knows what could be out there.

The point that was being made wasn't proven.

At the end of the day it's all theory, and nobody knows for certain.
Thanks for the chat. I've enjoyed it.

Six... Where the hell are you getting six planets from?

The possible number of planets in something as large as our galaxy is in the tens to hundreds of millions. Google it.

Out of trillions of star systems and billions of years, considering how long it took for us to come about, God fucking sucks at making us.

Human history is but an instant of time compared to how much has passed, there's no excuse it took this long.

This is probably a troll, but it's hard not to bite.

Based upon the universal prevalence of the molecules that form the basis of life. Based on the number of planets likely to exist in the habitable zone. Based upon the Copernican principle that our circumstances and placement are not unique.

The circumstances of early Earth are colossally unlikely to have been unique. Positing that they are requires many more assumptions and Occam's Razor cuts against it. What happened here is probably typical when conditions are right.

It's not proof, duh. But it's more than enough to suggest taking a look is worthwhile.
>>
>>61047560
There are 8 million unique examples of life on this planet right now

There are more than 100 quadrillion stars. There are 50 life capable planets detected so far and we havent even looked at 1/10000 of the stars in THIS galaxy yet.

Good thing to know is that we can only detect planets when they orbit directly in front of their star from our point of view. Life existing elsewhere is an inevitability.

>Russell's teapot

A teapot is indeed unlikely. But we have a clear instance of life arising on a single planet around a typical sun. That's not a teapot, it's an instance of self-perpetuating chemistry with clearly understood energetics and a reasonable framework for understanding the conditions under which it came about. It's a consequence of clear processes, the antecedents of which we observe universally.

Burden of proof is indeed upon those who would search, but I think Russell would have a hard time classing his teapot with a phenomenon for which there is in fact a precedent and a hypothesis of causation.
>>
>>61048282
Cool. Show an example of artificial life created in a laboratory. Show an example of natural life having evolved independently from the process theorized to have given rise to life on earth.

After that, you can clarify just how typical the sun is, since it's pretty apparent that it's anything but. Then you can talk about how typical the Earth is, since I'm pretty sure Kepler showed it to be unique.
