No stock market thread?

It looks like things could go badly for Europe and America (China and Japan are already open and way down) when they open for the New Year, and even if they don't fall tonight it looks like they are already set to fail very soon.

1,400 is the 50% retrace for that move from 2009 til last year

should offer good support if it gets down there

1,600ish may be the stopping point tho

and we're still in an uptrend til that 2nd diagonal support is broken
what I find fascinating is that the high was right at 161.8 of the 2007 top

that's been on my chart for years
didn't make any money off that tho

The debt cycle is over m8s.

This means:

The end of funding for Silicon Valley unicorns with no earnings and birkenstock hippies running them.

The end of cheap debt for shitty companies who wouldn't survive without it. Think shale-oil. Biotechs.

The end of dollar strength: time to kick the yield curve up a 100 basis points.

Now we get to see who survives.

This will be fun.

only good till cancelled orders are being dropped, you can still set daily stop losses. and if the market opens and your stock tanked after hours you've still lost that money if you sell at opening. they're problematic because what if the price of a stock goes haywire momentarily and you set something up months ago and forgot about it. most brokers limit good till cancelled stock orders anyway to 90 days or something
>>
>>60006503

Yeah they lost 40% in August and yet managed to finish the year well ahead while Europe and America finished down. They don't have infinite money though and they are reliant on foreign trade (mainly to import food, if not for that they could probably be self-sufficient) to keep their economy going. It is also important to note that by artificially solving the August crash, nothing was done to fix the problems in their economy (primarily the construction bubble) beside for adding more market safeguards, leaving them vulnerable to further crashes.
We'll just have to wait and see if they can deal with this one as effectively as they did last time

China's been in "free fall" for months.

The general consensus is that, because of the dominance of SOEs and the lack of participation in the stock market, they are not truly fucked until real estate collapses. Once that happens, group panic will take over and the over-leveraged banks will collapse. But the government will do almost anything to stop that, so it's a tough call.

I know the flag doesn't reflect it, but most of the year I live in Beijing. It's my job to know this shit and I'm telling you: China's ag sector is fucked.

They never adopted ag tech on an American scale (because they have a huge population of cheap rural labor), plus they're so polluted it's actually lowering their yields. So far they're surviving on GMO rice, but they know if they don't turn Africa into a greenhouse soon they could be in real trouble.

What do you mean? I expect for the near-future at least, oil prices are going to continue to sink with the US maintaining shale production, OPEC refusing to reduce production and Iran about to open its oil market after the end of the embargo. The lower oil prices go, the more we will use it over renewable/'green' fuels which were only really adopted because oil was so expensive

Given these market safeguards halting trading after a 7% loss, China can't crash in a single day and any 'happening' that occurs will be spread out across at least a few days

China's pensions are actually mostly in real estate. The stock market there is almost all private speculators and funds. That's why shit won't truly hit the fan until Granny Zhan's "retirement home" in 6th tier ghost town, Anhui, loses 98% of its value.

We are dealing with bad debt and bad loans that weren't even taken care of during the dotcom bubble, much less the housing bubble. Preferably a deflationary crash, and let all of the toxic assets work it's way out of the market, and get back to manufacturing and get out of the markets way. They may try bail-ins, they may try more QE, and they may take interests rates back down. Point is they will not be able to do the same thing that was done in 08 and keep things going like they did. The status quo of this ponzie scheme market is over they just pushed it too far for too long. Just look at the debt clock...do you really think foriegn countries are going to support our dollar if we bump our national debt to 30-40 trillion total in one year? No, because then their markets are more of a risk than they already are so they'll dump treasuries. The status quo is done, maybe not tomorrow, maybe SOMEHOW they postpone it another year but when all this rises to the surface this bullshit economics that has been happening is done.

There is one stock I think is a win-win right now:

DHT

Owns supermax oil tankers with a 10% dividend.

Right now they're getting paid to store oil in their tankers, which means nice revenues with little to no operating cost. When oil comes back, they'll make a ton of money too delivering it.

yeah, the USD is dead and has been for a long time. the final decline has begun in 2000 (pic related, s&p priced in gold). since 2008 it's all held together by ever increasing amounts of money printing, war and krugman-tier bullshitting.

the end of the Dollar as world reserve currency doesn't have to be a bad thing though. the next system could be better and more stable then the last. we'll see.

Most of us (and everyone else too) have very little idea what we're talking about. In simple terms, if stocks are rising then it is good, unless it rises too fast or without a corresponding rise in profit. If stock prices fall then it is basically always bad, but sometimes (read: always) inevitable.
