I mean, it's really about two things: First, our pretty long history of institutional racism, through slavery, segregation, etc. Black people in America have effectively only been able to vote for the last 50 years, so it's not all as ancient a history as it seems sometimes.

Which leads to point number 2: that blacks in America are very, very distrustful of the police, the justice system, and the government. Whether from unverified ideas like the CIA introducing crack cocaine into black communities, or the confirmed stuff like the US Public Health Service studying the effects of syphilis left untreated in blacks under the guise of offering free medical care, blacks feel like the government isn't theirs, doesn't care about them, and is working against them. The syphilis study didn't end until 1972, and it's really pretty fucked up.

Blacks are different from other minority groups because they don't have a home culture, really. They have no true connection to Africa; it's just a vague, completely foreign idea. Like white people in America have shaky claims to Europe, black people don't really have anything to hold on to outside of America, and all they can really look at is a history of oppression. Same identity crisis, except there’s no feeling of pride or ownership of this country.

It's a drag, and even Thomas Jefferson didn't think that blacks and whites could ever live equally after slavery, but it's not really that surprising that they're not pleased with us saying "Hey!
