Yellowstone is a civilisation ender.
>IF
It's not a question of if, it's a question of when.

However, one caveat is that we might have developed the technology to quell the effects by the time it erupts, it might be that long.

It would take hours, if not days, to melt the thick Dynjujökull glacier.

It most definitely is happening, its just hidden under a glacier. Once the glacier is breached, we're doomed.

Hopefully never. Stay in Durkaland, plz.
>>
Be patient, OP. The volcano needs to get through a thick ass glacier before it can do any damage, and that could take days.
>>
>>34586678
This. There's between 150-400m of ice on top of the volcano. When it breaks through it will cause massive flooding and send shitloads of ash into the atmosphere. Should also be quite explosive because of the superheated steam.
>>
>>34586898
I'm kind of hoping this will happen, we need some kind of big natural disaster to unite humanity a bit and stop our politicians acting like angry babies.

So far this volcano is more of a wet dog fart.

I am disappointed.
>>
>>34586898
theres 82^9 cubic meters of frozen water in that glacier.
I wonder if it will effect sea levels
>>
>>34587305
The amount of water in that glacier is the same as the entire Gulf of Mexico.

IF the entire glacier melted global sea levels would be raised by a couple of centimeters. Extremely unlikely that the entire thing will melt though so no worries there.

Take a look at this.

The seismic activity is picking up.
Now all of the tremors we get are +2 on the scale.

And keep in mind that it's a geological event.
Give it some time, these things might even take weeks.

Still not happening. Aviation colour code downgraded from red to orange.
>>
>>34590324
The real likely happening, when it comes, will be a jökulhlaup. That happens when all the ice that the volcano melted to water breaks free of the glacier and makes a massive flood (no threat to anyone if they're not in the way, which is why that part of the island is now closed). It tends to happen a bit after the eruption itself starts, and is pretty likely.

There's been some seismic activity in my area in Norcal around Napa and Lake county. I wonder if the pressure inbetween the mantle and the crust is being relieved elsewhere or something, after all earthquakes do send waves through the center of the earth when they go off.

I see a common occurrence with teenagers or people with low attention spam, which is the lack of life enthusiasm. I can only but impute it to the numbing effect of movie and video game industry that directs itself only to satisfy more consumers, and that means broadening its user-base by lowering the standards, as well length to keep the attention of the viewer, player. It is the reason why you can only get from it shortcut philosophy and incomplete ideas.

Minimize your anime, movies, music, games. Take a book and concentrate on the subject, story it tells, you will see how fruitful entertainment and interest wise it can be.

A different geologist anon here, these would be what we're looking for, but they give a distinct pattern on seismometers, which is easily discernable from regular tectonic activity. as soon as we see frequent and powerful harmonic tremors it will be erupting soon, but for now there isn't too much to say that it will erupt in the very near future.

There are no signs of magma erupting to the surface. It is a bad thing since if the vent is now melting the ice there are going to be thousands, perhaps million tonnes of melt water on top a volnanic vent. Guess what happens if the magma pressure goes down? Water goes down. Then a massive steam explosion like Krakatoa. This may rip few cubic kilometres of mountainside.

You should read more classical works if those are your choices of "better" books. Every little story or game mechanic will feel repulsive or boring after a while. You will get a new understanding why many people doesn't even find video games interesting, just smiling and shaking their heads saying they don't play, them having better fulfillment in pursuing some art or technology branch. Think of the makers of video games; I don't think they are playing games as much has they were kids, they rather make them and challenge themselves, see what they can create. And in that branch goes for everyone - programers stuck with their texts, figuring out how to make things work; modelers trying to recreate character made by concept artist's, them both hand in hand with specialist of the game engine; producer keeping an eye on everything to be popular and could be able to sell(strong arguments is the clear dumbing down of games, so we can infer that most people involved in game creation have bigger priorities over how quality the game should be) - everyone but, perhaps, beta-testers, but even for them can attribute not the joy of playing the game but of the crashing and breaking it.

Uh. I've already worked on a programming team for a fairly big game. It is interesting, sure, but stressful as hell. It wears your mind out until you can't take it anymore. And what might some of these better 'older' books be? I've read Tess of d'Urbervilles, Scarlet Letter, Great Expectations, Old Man and the Sea, all shit. It always amazes me how bookfags think books are the height of interesting creations. Video games fill a urge that books can't even come close to touching: The urge of hunting prey. Even the games that are nothing at all like hunting fill this urge for me, like Super Meat Boy. There is nothing so utterly satisfying as achieving perfect execution in an extremely mechanically complex scenario.
