well, that was what the germans call the "Kleindeutsche Lösung", translated to "small-german solution" to the unification problem. Taking more from Austria would have meant that the Balkan and eastern european regions would have been lost, strengthening Russia in their pan-slavic expansion which would have gobbled up much of todays romania, bulgaria and serbia from a weakened hungarian state left behind when austria is cut out of the austro-hungarian empire at the time. So a military solution was out of question and the Habsburgers just didnt want to join a german empire under prussian leadership willingly.
