10 years ago I went to work in london. I had never step foot in the UK. I stayed there a couple years. Good years. The city was expensive but the people were nice and open. I used to praise them. I thought they did a better job at taking in foreigners than most continental countries. I thought they were quite tolerant at the time.

Went back last year by complete chance, job opportunity for a few months working between Glasgow and London. And honestly it's not the same. It's worse, so much worse since the brexit vote. Maybe it was my first impression that was false, I'm not sure. IMO they have a serious national identity crisis on their hands that they are not dealing with and the tumor is spreading like wildfire.

I've seen brits who never left their island all of a sudden pretend to be experts about the continent and my own country. I've had a lady who hasn't been to France since the sixties explain to me how France is supposedly letting "tens of thousands" of migrants "invade" the UK on purpose. I had to explain to her the Touquet treaty and also she was unaware that the UK actually pays France a little less than 100 million € per year to maintain the British border on the continent instead of having it at Dover.

And don't get them started on the EU man. Might as well talk about the third Reich it seems at times. Which is fucking fascinating to me since the brits are in my mind very clearly not holding their own politician accountable for anything and for a very long time at that. But the EU? it's fucking Satan incarnated.

So what I think about the UK right now? well it's not united. The Scots they can not wait to get out of the UK. looks like the northern Irish as well. Wales? who the fuck cares about wales?
