The car.
It was a huge step up for machinery and ultimately connected the world in a physical way, rather than an online way. Thanks to cars, we can now ship anything to anywhere in record time.

right the car has done all it'll do, but the internet, once the do-nothing babysitter mentality of the boomers dies, will replace offices and shops completely

The car, but the internet is far from finished.
The car revolutionized stores, but the internet will kill them. I imagine soon you can walk around in a VR store, with clothes on mannequin copies of your own body, and get opinions of Google AI that have processed millions of opinions around certain fashion and body combinations.

Based off of productivity growth, the internet seemingly had no positive effect. Really makes you think.
