I suggest that all pits have paperwork proving they are not inbred. No tail bobs/no ear mutilations. Owners must have some sort of permit to own an animal of that size/breed. Other breeds should be included based on general weight of breeds. Certain citys could simply ban medium sized dogs due to problems. Small dogs are nearly harmless. No one should be able to own an animal that can fit a baby into its mouth without taking classes and proving that THEY are responsible for the dogs actions. People can be barred from ownership based on the same conditions that keep people from owning guns.

Gun's don't kill people. People do. The owner creates a perfect storm by being unaware of what an animal is capable of, and being unable to control said animal. At least make the owner 100% legally responsible.

The problems would disappear, and the continued ownership of most dangerous breeds would dwindle back to reasonable levels. The breeds would be put back to work where they belong...on farms and rural areas. These dogs are not ment for suburban and city life.

No they should not be banned, but the penalties are high and should be for irresponsible ownership, and it does not help that there is a sappy smoke screen concerning the dogs. They are war machines. Just look at the way they are built. They are amazing animals, and do serve a purpose. Still though they are dangerous, and only a fool would not realize that they are indeed different from other breeds. I have a healthy respect and fear of them because they are bred to kill. I've had 20 dogs. Breeds ranging from Jack Russells, Bassett Hounds to Neopolitan Mastiffs. I've had 8 Staffordshire Bull Terriers, a particularly aggressive breed, but never had a bad one. The only dog to actually attempt to bite me was the Jack Russell.

I had one Pit Bull, from birth, and I gave it away after 1 year. It was the dumbest, most skittish dog I've ever had. If a child walked past dancing it lost it's shit. If a sudden loud noise happened it lost it's shit. If a ball bounced past it it lost it's shit. The dog was a fucking retard. It had no self-control whatsoever. It was a danger. It wasn't aggressive, it just had no self control. I've never seen another breed act like it.

Not true. Protection dogs can never really be a family pet. Perhaps if everyone in the family and anyone who visits the home knows all the rules and has an understanding of dog training.
