What if somebody asked you if you were. Youre not worshipping the jewelry. Sounds like you either deny or dont have the courage? Between what you think are righteous actions (nobody is) and actions like the cross you take the easy way out. And since nobody is perfect. You might as well answer people before they even need to ask you. If antichrist said to me take my antichrist mark or you die. I keep on my cross. And die proudly

Of course I would never deny being a Christian. Like Paul says "to live is Christ to die is gain." Jesus said "let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." The only righteousness I have is Jesus bro to Him be the glory forever and ever.

Yes. I rock a gold chain with a crucifix most of the time.

What? That is not the gospel. Jesus literally tells us to go and preach the gospel and go into every nation and make deciples.

Matthew 5:13-16
13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

>That's what I was saying, context matters. Your body is a temple and the cross is an extension of it, a part of your identity and a commitment. Would you also forbid wedding rings?

Yeah, context matters, but in general, wearing a cross isn't a Biblical thing. The Bible tells you not to make holy trinkets and to not make graven images. The thing about the kid willingly dying because he refused to take off his cross... I wouldn't compare myself to him unless you are saying you'd do the same thing.

>forbidding wedding rings

I'm not really in the business of banning things. I just recognize some things as good or bad. Wearing a cross for everyone to see, having a tattoo of the crucifix, these are generally vain displays. Wedding bands can be used to signify that a man or woman is unavailable for courtship. Used in this context, it is fine. A girl showing off her wedding band and how much it costed and whatnot... you get my meaning.

My ideas on marriage in general is a little too complex for /pol/ anyway. For example, I think wedding vows are inappropriate and set yourselves up for failure.

Holy trinkets and graven images is another subject, it's a distinction between worship and venetration. I wear my cross like most orthodox since my childhood and got more condescending comments for it than praise, maybe it's different in the US than Europe. While I abhor tattoos, many early Christians branded themselves, voluntary or involuntary, with a mark as a sign of defiance against Romans, even St Paul boasted about his.
>>
>>140163382
Yeah, I mean, I can agree. Context and intention matters. That's why I sprinkle little words like "generally" and "tends to be" in what I say.

If I wear a cross and go out and know I will be beaten and killed for it... there's obviously something different to it.

Take it up with the Lord for why you think or do a thing. The Holy Spirit will share knowledge and guide you.

This is specifically a slap at the Pharisees who prayed loudly and publicly in order to show off to others on how pious they are.
Has nothing to do with praying in public just for the sake of prayer.
>such as praying before an abortion clinic
>>
>>140169585
Is that a Jewish reading light on his head?
>>
>>140169691
It is literally boxes with the Torah written on tiny scripts. The 'greatest' rabbis boast that they know what scriptures would be pierced if they drove a pin through the box.
This is what Christ was referring to. Public demonstrations for the sake of showing off.

Otherwise, He would have been reproaching Himself when He prayed the Our Father in public.
>>
>>140169585
And you should see the rich organizers of Christianity no differently. Every charlatan preacher, pedophile priest and political pope is no better than a Pharisee. You cannot honestly believe that Jesus' church lives on in them. Would Jesus approve of American Christians? Say one thing, do the opposite.
>>
>>140170109
There are many who do the above.
So many people are quick to throw the baby out with the bathwater; interpreting this to mean ANY prayer or display of faith in the public is somehow bad. This is more prevalent among Americans where the notion of religion as a "private matter" is widespread because of the liberal, anti-clerical, pantheistic philosophy it is founded upon.
>>
>>140169233
Christ would abstain from wearing a cross and he'd command people to not wear holy trinkets.

>>140170909

>>140169585

Why does this simple truth sting you so much? Where in the Bible does it permit to you to wear a cross or a symbol of your faith? It doesn't. It actually tells you to not make graven images and to not mess with holy trinkets.
>>
>>140171077
Now that Christianity and its symbols have been largely stripped from society, how's Christianity faring?
There's nothing wrong with displaying your faith. You aren't showing off or displaying false piety. I'm proud to be Christian; thus I display my crucifix proudly.
I preach Christ crucified.

In the book of Exodus, God instructs his people to construct two gold statues of cherubim and place them on top of the Ark of the Covenant. (Exodus 25:10-22).
Also in the first book of Kings, we read that in the sanctuary of the Temple there were two olive wood statues of cherubim and numerous carvings and statues of oxen, lions, palm trees, etc (1 Kings 6:23; 7:13-51).
In the Book of Numbers, God ordered Moses to make a bronze statue of a serpent and to mount it on top of a pole as an instrument for healing (Numbers 21:6-9) … and also in the Book of Judges we read that Micah’s mother had a “carved image” constructed of silver and consecrated it as a gift to the Lord (Judges 17:1-6).
Was God confused? Or perhaps you just don't have any idea what you're talking about--and it was referring to worshiping images and statues as if they were God.

A good point. I don't think it was founded on a pantheistic philosophy as much as as anti-clerical one.
For any great thinker of the past, like Jefferson, religion must've be a private matter. Because the "gates of knowledge" were closed, you risk your public life and reputation by critiquing or appearing to have a "heathen" philosophy. In a sense, religion isn't a private matter in America nowadays because you can basically have any view you want, even one that could "save" Christianity. The gates are open in a way that they are not in a "pious" country like Italy.
Kinda forgot where I was going with this.

In the Old Testament, it was forbidden to create an image of God … because He had not yet taken on human form. Also since no one in the OT had ever seen God face-to-face besides Moses, no artist could ever know what he looked like (Deut 4:15-16). Now, in the New Testament, God indeed DID come in human form (an image): "He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God…" (Colossians 1:15). "For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9) "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)" (1 John 1:1-2)

After all, Luke (the Biblical author of Luke) was a doctor and an artist, and was (as far as we know) the first to paint a portrait of the Blessed Mother holding the baby Jesus [if I remember correctly it’s called the Madonna painting]. The Church calls these "icons."

It's a bit gay, but I wear the same necklace as sora from kingdom hearts. Use at a sort of trinity representation (its a three pointed crown) helps me keep a balance between my relationship with god and my individual personality

I used pantheistic because we, as a nation, stand Jesus Christ side-by-side and afford the same rights to as Mahomet, Buddha, Krishna, and now, even Satan.
Essentially, we're an American Pantheon; where truth is subjective and the State is atheistic.

Pride is the excessive love of one's own excellence; self-exaltation. Pride in God and being Christian has nothing to do with my excellence.
For heaven's sake, your understanding of things is truly sad.
One of the marks of a Christian is charity in conversation. I suggest you exercise it.

Being a proud Christian, wearing a cross and showing it to people, you can be that kind of a Christian, but scripture will tell you that's not the way to be.

No.

I am an Antitheist, i consider all religious people to be mentally ill.

But i do not say that to them, but their word loses all credibility with me.

No, but when I was a kid in SoCal out on the playground in the sand, 3 different times I found gold Jesus on an anchor necklaces. Each time my dad took me to a pawnshop, or a Jeweler to sell them. He always let me keep the money. Bought me a lot of toys and super soakers. I never felt bad about it because I'm sure they were all dropped by Mexican kids. By the way, why do Mexicans love golden Jesus on an anchor so much, and why did they always bring them to school to drop in the playground sand?

God won't exalt you for saying "Lord, Lord!" with your necklace. It's vanity. Material doesn't matter. Only spirit pleases God.

Very well. I'm told god wants a relationship with me. If he exists, he knows what would reinstate my faith, and he will send me a sign.
If not, then life goes on. Even when it stops including me.

That is okay-- gods don't need rights and it is a problem when you base your laws on scripture (not just influenced by them).
