Clubs are a better weapon and more easily improvised in random situations anyway. Knives are too small, not enough reach or weight, and are often metal detected/confiscated. You don't need a knife for personal defense, you need something you can swing into someone's skull with a decent amount of torque, and thankfully you can generally find one of those laying around wherever you might be in such a time of need.
