The problem is modifying DNA isnt like adding cup holders to a car. Adding in a trait also activates and deactivates others. Experts are finding out that the "dormant" portions of our DNA are still functioning in vital roles during the replication process.

Splicing shit in is pretty iffy since its just as likley to turn into a hyper agressive cancer, activate a disorder or two, or simply be rejected and destroyed as it is to work.

Quite frankly I think cybernetics will be easier and more widespread and will then gradually get replaced by genetic engineering. Especially since you cant really add in genetic modification to an adult organism, with genmod you need to start from scratch.

That's the problem. Men only have one X chromosome, which is the reason that it's far more common for them to be colorblind. They don't have a backup when they inherit a damaged (or in rarer cases completely missing) color receptor from their mothers. They only have a total of 3 cone types: S, M, and L. You can't get a 4th out of that.

However, women have two copies of each. 2 S, 2 M, and 2 L. This also results in normal color vision. In the case that a woman inherits a damaged cone from a color blind parent (or a carrier mother), she will now possess BOTH a normal-functioning and a damaged cone that receives a different wavelength of light. This is where you get the fourth cone type.
