Eh, by the time the bombs were dropped Japan was already finished. They were already considering surrender and would have definitely done it anyway. The only real benefit of the bombs being dropped was that they probably discouraged anyone from using them or starting another major global conflict. They were devastating and horrible but they have probably saved countless lives in the long run. Whether they will continue to do so is another story. But the threat of mutually assured destruction has probably prevented WWIII.
