wrong you fucking retard, swords very rarely broke, while sidearms worked as back up weapons their main purpose was for indoors/packed conditions fighting where a long weapon is a massive detriment
this is why japs had long/short swords, the short one was also usually more suitable for stabbing
europeans had longsword/spear/axe+short sword/dagger/knife combos for the same reason
