I practiced eskrima for few years and it was really cool. Learned to use different weapons and how to defend against them. I also learned boxing and unarmed fighting there. You can do wonders with just a stick if you know how to use it. Eskrima's footwork is good and it works unarmed as well.

I always carry telescopic baton with me because I know that I can beat multiple opponents with it and take out knives if needed.

Another protip: you need muscles to make hits count. Buy adjustable hand weights and push-up handles. You can train with them at home but gym is even better. Nobody will fuck with you if you are well built because it also gives you confidence just to stare people down.

You're looking for a striking based combat sport if you want to be effective.
Muay Thai is probably the best as it teaches to grapple as well as to strike with everything. Knees, elbows, fists, shins. Can easily be adjusted to a non contest situation too, i.e. in a real fight the hard knee strike to the abdomen that you learned can be used as a hard knee strike to the balls.

Other than that boxing is a pretty good bet. Simply knowing how to guard and strike will put you leagues above any untrained tard.

Ive trained it a little, nothing more than learning how to keep guard and throw straight and it saved me few times already. Usual streep punks hit like windmill and hold no guard. One fast in jaw and leg it!
Grappling or going low is not recommend, especially in 1 vs many scenarios.
Also, half of boxing training is about cardio and this is always good.

I have encountered people that by all means shouldn't be allowed to progress because they are simply not physically able to, but I have never met a truly incompetent teacher. To answer OP's question, if you've got access to guns, that is what you should be focussing on by far. If you don't have that access, anything that can be learnt quickly and easily would be the go, especially if you prefer to get proficient sooner rather than later.

Grappling - Jiu Jutsu, Judo

BJJ has some good stuff in there, but because of it's ground focus, you really wouldn't want to be in a position where you go to ground and there are multiple assailants.

Not in an urban setting, no. Given what's happened lately at places like Berkley and C'ville where that actually was a free for all with 2 clear sides - yeah, quite possibly. If you study Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do or its original non-sport variant, Tang Soo Do, you have essentially studied Aikido and Shotokan in Korean. However, I would recommend, if only taking one, you take Hapkido. It integrates the joint locks and grips from Aikido but teaches striking and such in a manner that it all integrates in one smooth system.
