Orwell saw the danger of proletarian divisionism and he tried to make a case against it.

But a almost a century later we completely miss the point, even if we live exactly in the society he described.

We aren't even in Huxley's new world anymore, cause constant vigilance makes pleasures into guilts.

1984 was a story against authoritarianism. It was originally written as a metaphor against Stalinism. It is a parody of sorts of the Soviet Union.

Orwell himself was a socialist influenced by anarchism and democratic socialism. He fought in a Trotskyist militia for Revolutionary Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, which was mostly controlled by anarchists and socialist trade unions. This definitely inspired him to fight against far left totalitarianism.

Nineteen Eighty-Four has nothing to do with being against all governments or economics. It's 100% about Stalinism, and by extension, Marxism-Leninism.

Nineteen Eighty-four is a lesson that teaches, if we are to achieve socialism, we must never follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union, but rather a free liberated workers republic.

The same goes for his other big work, Animal Farm. But that's half history, half, erm, metaphor I guess?

Honestly, I don't really know what to think about this one. But you shouldn't ask me, because my "eternal war" opinion is fueled by a personal theories of mine.

My personal theory is that either the other two nations don't exactly exist. This is either done with:
A) A world government ran with the Ingsoc-esque anti-individualist ideology. Basically, Emmanuel Goldstein summed up that the two other nations had the same anti-individualist ideology as Ingsoc (Neo-Bolshevism and Death Worship). Regions were told to fight each other, when it was really just a mega-party pulling the strings of workers around the world. This is Orwell telling us that Marxism-Leninism parties instantly become aristocracy, which is 100% true.

B) (My personal favorite theory) There never was a Death Worshiping Eastasia and Neo-Bolshevist Eurasia. The whole of Oceania is just on the island of Britain- an extremely isolationist Marxism-Leninism Single-Party state. The citizens believe that they are part of a bigger empire, with a bigger war happening that is greater than them, but it's all propaganda. Bullshit to keep the proles believing they are gears in the cogs. There is no way any bureaucracy can run a nation the size of the Americas, Oceania, South Africa, and the British Islands. So Oceania lies about their true land. The party has the army tricked into shelling British land, thinking it's enemy territory. The British are tricked into thinking that the shells landing in their land is from the enemy. It's all the party, fucking with the proles.

Living in a country that fought a race war for 500 years I can assure you that ethnic nationalism means that you will always be at war with someone, maybe that's the goal of life for some, but I seriously think that it's a waste of human resources.
