is it even humanly possible to live on $29/week in USA?
>>
>>139798785

my rent is $244 a week so no
>>
>>139798785
Why are poor niggers so fat then? Does McDonald's accept food stamps?
>>
Families on SNAP do not get 29 dollars per week. They get 29 dollars per person per week.

This shit never ends.
>>
Why did she buy all those veggies instead of high calorie food? The beans, rics and tortillas was a good start
>>
>>139798785
No, but buying 7 limes isn't the way to try.

maybe if she didn't buy 7 limes.

Rice and beans you stupid bitch
>>
>>139798785
$29/wk for just food? It's not glamorous, but yeah.
>>
>>139799177
And that's just for food. And considering how cheap bulk food is that's more than enough
>>
thats like 3 mcchickens a day. So id assume bulk rice and potatoes and butter is a lot less
>>
>>139799161
Actually, most fast food places in California accept food stamps, yeah. I'm not sure about McDonalds specifically, but a lot of the other ones.
>>
>>139798785
this woman is one of the biggest airheads to cross the land probably literally. shes quite fucking stupid
>>
>>139798785
If it was only $29 of food then yes (I live in lower NY). Obviously not if that's all you have for rent and other bills.
>>
>limes
>an avocado
>pre-made tortillas
>packaged peas

Holy shit nigger what the fuck. Rice, beans, leafy greens. This shit isn't hard.

Also, poor people are by far the most obese group of people in America. Niggers that are supposedly so broke that the government has to pay for all of their food, housing, education, and healthcare are routinely over 300 pounds and STILL have money for dope.
>>
>>139798785

In terms of food, probably. Just eat nothing but potatoes or rice or whatever is the cheapest and most filling. But in general? Definitely not. Rent*, bills, gas*, other shit...

Unless you're homeless and don't have to pay any bills or care about anything aside from food and finding shelter...
>>
If you're talking food, 25 per week is my max as i do a lot of pickling and fermenting thus veggies last a super long time and the rest is fats and fruits
>>
>>139798785
Receipt for proof or gtfo. Seen a lot of this petty shit going around on jewbook lately.
>>
I've always wondered if this was supposed to be BuzzFeed-esque clickbait where she clearly buys expensive things like limes and fucking bok choy, or if she's just so out of touch with a regular American's lifestyle that she doesn't know that things like rice and dry beans cost next to nothing or has never shopped for herself.

Yes, you can live off of 29$ worth of food. That bitch is fucking retarded though for about 50 reasons. First of all, she sucks at shopping on a budget. Second of all, food stamps are adjusted with income to allow about 200$/per person a month in food expenses, which equals about 50$ a week, a very livable amount of food. The 29$ 'food stamp challenge' is the average amount given, because their income is adjusted for them to have another 21$ of their own money on top of food stamps.

>spend the other half on rice, beans, celery and potatoes
>apples are cheap in the fall, bananas are cheap the rest of the year
>>
I worked my way through college and my grandmother, who was on social security, would send me $35 dollars a week for groceries.

I struggled but was able to eat just fine. It's amazing how many combinations you can come up with if you have only bratwurst, a sack of potatos, a sack of onions, a dozen eggs, a block of cheese, and a bag of baking flour, and a couple of other things...

I was like Bubba in Forrest Gump with potatos. Scalloped potatoes, boiled potatos, fried potatos, potatos au gratin, mashed potatoes, broiled potatos, potato soup..etc etc...

With flour, eggs and water I would make southern style biscuits for bread. And I ate a TON of bratwurst...

It was tough sometimes but I made it work.
>>
>>139799344
Well, that's quite retarded. Gubmint should force food stamp users to buy only at local stores and a specific selection of products.
>>
>>139798785
What's the "S" in "SNAP" stand for?
>>
>>139799161
You ever go to the grocery store and see those glass milk bottles? Supposedly you can return them for anywhere from $1.50 to $2 a bottle (depending on where you live). Since the small bottles usually cost like $2.50, a fair amount of SNAP beneficiaries buy out those milk bottles, dump the milk out in the parking lot, then cash them in for free money to be used however they want.

It's a pretty popular practice with college kids, our stores are almost always completely out of those small milk bottles (which sucks because I actually reuse those bottles).

Taxation is theft.
There is ZERO justification to have SNAP at all.
Burn the welfare safety net, America is not a country where we look out for each other. And it's only minorities or liberals that use SNAP anyways. Earn your own way through life or perish.
Don't like it? Tough shit. Your suffering is not my problem.
>>
Doesn't USA grow a lot of that shit and is able to import the rest cheap from south America and Mexico?

Here's how I'd stretch €30 in Euroland.
>7.5kg potatoes €5
>bacon offcuts 3kg €6
>chicken thighs 3kg €5
>beef mince 20% fat 2kg €6
>1 kg onions €1
>2kg frozen veg mix €2
>milk 6l €4
>frozen spinach 1kg €1

This Gwyneth chick is a fucking retard that thinks all people should eat gourmet faggot organic shit.
>>
>>139798785
Depends. Once your big bills (rent/mortgage, utilities, insurances, food) are done, all you really need to worry about is gas and luxuries. You don't need luxuries, so that takes it to just gas. My truck chugs the shit and I can go a week on $20-25 worth, so $29 is just playing it safe at that point.
>>
>>139799905
Plus there's rice if you want an extremely cheap and versatile side dish in place of bread, which can get expensive. Also always keep an eye out for special bargain sales. You can get very nice meat at amazing prices if you stake advantage of those sales.

For cheap meat options though, yeah, buying a bag of flash-frozen chicken breasts or pork chops at costco is probably the best way to go. Will probably last you a month.
>>
>>139800195
>7.5kg potatoes €5

This is LITERALLY how I lived through college. I paid my own tuition and my grandmother would send me about $35 dollars a week for groceries.
>>
>>139799177
Not only that, but that's just the average amount per person, which is adjusted to be supplemented with personal income. Food stamps are designed so that you have about 50$ per person worth of food every week. If you are 200$+/mo below the poverty line, you receive the full 200$ a month, which is what happens if you are unemployed or underemployed with a shitload of kids. The 'living off 29$ a week' is a lie, the real number is 50$.

Of course these rich Hollywood libcucks have no understanding of this, to them poor people are just a novelty you feel sorry for, like a limping stray dog. They are so out of touch with reality it's absurd.
>>
As somebody who is dieting and having an incredibly hard time eating shit that is low in calories, 29 dollars a week can give you enough calories to not only keep you alive, but make you fat.

Hungry people in america have no excuse being hungry.

You can easily survive on one hour of minimal wage a day, and getting a job for minimal wage is cake. . . literally.
>>
>>139798785

>>

>>139800195
Well thats cheap as fug. Minced beef is like 10 euros per kg over here. You potato niggers have it easy.
>>
>>139800099
Some stores here also do that but you can only exchange the empty bottle for the same product, with a discount.
You just walk in with the bottle and exchange it, no questions asked? I'd think the store clerk would at least ask for a receipt.
>>
>>139800654
The only people who starve in America are bulimics and hunger strikers. It's pretty much impossible to go hungry with how cheap and abundant food is. Our homeless people are more in danger of dying from exposure than hunger because getting food is as easy as panhandling for a few hours and then talking into a 7/11.
>>
>>139798785
Definitely, I lived off $120/mo at one point in my life.
>Could easily get a large sack each of rice, beans, and potatoes for ~$15, probably significantly less.
>Provides the carb, protein and fat intake you need.
>Supplement with a few greens you grow in your garden or forage for (wild onions are fucking everywhere, mushrooms are trickier but doable once you learn the local flora, many flowers are edible, etc) to get essential vitamins.
>Get a cheapass/loaned/crafted fishing rod and a $10 fishing license if you have a local freshwater body and catch some fish for some near-free meat.
>Use the rest of the $14 for fresh fruits and veggies, ideally at a place like Aldi's that sells them dirt cheap. Or if you're lazy just buy mutlivitamins to get your vitamin fix.

There, that's what I was doing when I had to live off $120 a month in food. Along with liberal use of coupons. I also hunted when it was deer season, had a freezer full of venison for half the year. Also hunted for rabbits, squirrels, ducks and turkeys when I could. Fished during the spring and summer. Picked mushrooms after heavy rains, foraged for wild berries, nuts, flowers, greens and onions. Nature's an all-you-can-eat buffet if you know where to look and what to avoid. Assuming you're not some city slicker, if you are then enjoy the government cheese.
>>

Eggs, beans, rice, hamburger, tuna, oatmeal, buying seasonal and canned fruit/veggies.

Exactly. $29/week goes a long way to help providing the important basics.
>>
Not in a 'traditional' sense. Homeless people do it all the time. And there is a fine line between homelessness and those that choose to live the vagabond / hobo lifestyle. Hiking, sleeping in a tent and carrying all your possessions on your back might allow you to do it. I do it for fun a few weeks a year and just call it camping, but it's no real solution for day to day living except for a few folks that are SUPER eccentric.

I buy five major food items at the grocery store:
>olive oil

Unless you're buying expensive olive oil, all of it comes out to around $15. I also make sure to buy onions and decent cheese (like feta). Eating nothing but rice and spinach omelettes for a week isn't too bad.

hahahahhaa. I lived on $10 a week for food in college because I wanted to hoard my wealth to invest. Bought in bulk: beans, frozen vegetables, rice, and tortillas, and a bundle of bananas.

Also it's $29 per person (and that's a low end, when I worked at a gas station the average was around $40-50 a week it seemed).
>>
>>139800108

When I lived in the French countryside everyone just picked the fruits off their neighbors' trees. Since the entire area was rural, people with backyards would always grow mirabelles, cherries, apricots, blueberries, apples, and so on, and they allowed everyone to help themselves (since they weren't exactly selling those fruits to the market).
>>
>>139798785

Yes. I have a friend (a woman) who lives out of a van (all paid for) and she dumpster dives and finds all kinds of fresh food (most of which isn't expired) to eat in back of grocery stores & restaurants. She only pays like $100 for gas each month. It's amazing how much stores throw away when it could be discounted to $1 or less and given to homeless shelters.

$29 USD is $36 CAD.
I am vegetarian and I am cutting right now:

Here is what I get for the week:

>Italian Style Tofu Sausages: $7
>30 pack of eggs: $5
>3 cans of beans (red and chickpeas): <$3
>produce (spinach, tomatoes, onions and apples): $10
>Whey Protein Powder (estimate per week): $10

$1 left over.

Suck it!

Gwynneth Paltrow is the dumbest white person in America. I make a little over $100k and oddly enough $29 a week is just about exactly what I spend on food. I've been calculating the cost of my meals for years and it always averages out to about $1.50 per meal.
Today for breakfast I ate a homemade biscuit ($0.08) with sausage ($0.12) egg ($0.9) and cheese ($0.12) with coffee ($0.10). For lunch I had a giant tossed salad with greenleaf lettuce ($0.10) carrots ($0.02) cucumber ($0.06) tomato ($0.00) red onion ($0.08) homemade balsamic vinaigrette ($0.13) and grilled chicken ($0.50) with homemade iced tea ($0.10). For supper homemade pork fried rice ($1.00) with stir fried broccoli, mushrooms, onions, carrots, garlic and ginger ($1.00). Delicious, nutritious I ate like a king for $3.50.

No free lunch policy.

At restaraunts, when food expires employees are not allowed to eat it. They're throwing it away, they know it's still good, and they want to eat it. They have to throw it away. If you let them eat expired food for free, then they'll over prepare food so that there's enough expired for them to have. Same thing with groceries stores. People can afford the groceries at regular price.

You're retarded, if you buy healthy shit at the whole foods it'll cost a fortune. Fruits and vegetables are pretty expensive, if you go and buy unhealthy stuff it's pretty cheap, honestly $29 can get you a lot at a grocery store if you're not buying organic healthy stuff.

I had a manager one time who ate all healthy/organic, and he told me he spent $300 on groceries. Of course people will claim this is why Americans are fat, because fast food is cheap and convenient compared to eating healthy. Same thing with going to the store and buying junk food, it's cheaper.

This bitch is stupid. I just bought a dozen eggs at Aldi for .69 cents. **69 CENTS** for a dozen eggs. That's enough to eat 2 scrambled eggs almost every day for breakfast for less than a dollar. Throw in a $3.00 loaf of bread for some toast, etc and I can eat breakfast all weak for $5.00 if I had to.

That rice and beans and shit can be had for $1.00-$1.50 a bag at Dollar Tree or Walmart.

Limes are like 5 for $1.00 or $1.50

The most expensive thing in that whole photo are the leafy greans, but even then they're still no more than $2.00 or $3.00

$29
Hmm
Lemme think. I live like a poorfag, but never put the numbers to paper. I will round up just to be safe.
I eat lotsa brown rice, frozen broccoli, oatmeal, eggs, sweet potatoes and chicken.
I get family packs of chicken breast at $1.50/lb. 4lb - $6
3lb sweet potatoes for $2
16oz Brown Rice - $1
32oz frozen veggies- $2
18 eggs - $2
18 oz oatmeal -$2
That would cover the basics for $15/week. Maybe not thriving, but definitely surviving.
Let's add some ham and bread to fry up with the eggs and make a few sandwiches
9oz sliced ham $2.50
Whole grain bread - $3
$8.50 left to go
Let's add some produce and something to mix in the oatmeal.
Checking my local ad for sales, they have cantaloupe, pound of peaches and 6oz blackberries for $1 each. Grab 1 of each @ $3 total.
$5.50 left. Let's get some drinks.
For my preferred drink, hot and iced:
40ct green tea bags - $1.50
And let's get some calcium-
1 gallon milk - $2
All in all pretty good, and $2 left for the most important thing:
12oz Crystal's Hot Sauce - $1.50
Made it with 50 cents to spare and some leftovers to carry over to next week.
So yeah, I could (and basically do) live on $29 a week grocery money.
What I can't do is make it work on convenience foods or going to some type of whole foods type place.

The rules changed in some states, where you can buy "prepared foods". Which is basically anything -- McDonalds, those "prepared hot foods" near the deli at grocery stores, soups and deli items, etc.

Basically up to the individual grocer/company.

Gym with more than 185lbs on all major exercises, followed by 10 mins of cardio at around 155 heart rate/min. Squat at 205 with 6 reps only.

For sustinance ? Yes. Completely possible. You just have to know how to use groceries and cook.

Five pounds of flour is 4 USD, yeast is a few dollars, free if your own starter colony.

You can bake 3 massive loaves of bread with that.

32oz of rice, which expands to nearly double is 1.70.

Chicken breast is 2.99 a pound on sale, and ground beef is 3 pounds for 2.80.

18 eggs is 1.83.

That's like 5-6 bucks so far? Easily a few days worth of breakfasts, lunches and dinners there.

Because 30K is considered the poverty level in California. Rent is 3 times higher there than all other states but Hawaii. Utilities is 30% more per month. Gas is $1.00 more a gallon compared to the rest of the US. Sales tax is around 10%. Add with that all the other taxes and state fees and you can see why 30,000 a year is poverty levels and people can't afford food.

Whenever I see these compilations of what 'poor people have to eat' they always hide a few expensive and silly food products in the image to reach the amount.
>>
>>139807696
Some grocery stores in my areas have a "poor people rack" of discounted bread, baked goods, cupcakes and donuts, etc that's near the expiration date.
>>
Assuming you have at least basic seasoning/hot sauce

7 cans of beans: 3.50
5lb bag of brown rice: 3.00
~12 chicken thighs from the butcher: 7.00
Cauliflower: 2.00
Kale (loose) (eat this raw): 2.50
Dozen eggs: 3.00
~12 Flour tortillas from the mexican store: 1.50

Buy unnecessary things you like with the remaining 6.50. Did this for a few months in between jobs, only spending about 20 a week on groceries. There's enough variation in this that you can either eat straight tacos all week or mix it up. Also, opting for garbanzo beans makes a good snack when you back them for about an hour.

Butcher and mexican store doesn't exist in every place.

I don't even remember the last time I saw kale for sale.

Cauliflower isn't for sale in every store either.

so we're down to beans, rice, and eggs which should be available at about 95% of stores.

Fair enough, bone-in chicken thighs are still dirt cheap at the supermarket.

Sub out kale with any dark leafy green that's inexpensive. Chard, even spinach. anything that fills your stomach and doesn't taste fantastic so you don't devour all of it. That's at most stores now.

Sub out cauliflower with broccoli or any other vegetable with decent vit c and/or fiber. fuck it, spend 2 dollars from the 6.50 remaining on almonds.

I live in Detroit. There is a local fast food chain here that accepts EBT. They do this by exploiting a loophole. The customer buys the raw food with EBT and pays a $1 frying fee in cash for them to cook it for you. The fast food chain is Captain Jay's Fish and Chicken. They aren't the only restaurant in Detroit that does this either.

You also said something about seasonings. If you're going to eat that shit for every meal, you're going to go through seasonings pretty quick, those run anywhere from $3-$5 a bottle. That shit gets expensive after a while.

Unless you go extremely basic and pretty much just put hot sauce on everything. Even then, you're looking at really shitty hot sauce unless you want to pay the $5+ for the better stuff.

Yeah I mean salt and pepper, morton's big box type stuff.

As far as hot sauce goes, a massive jug of crystal is wicked cheap, 7.00 last time I bought some for a barbecue. The 6.50 you budget for every week lets you have some wiggle room here.

It's not exciting and fun to live on a shoestring budget. Your food won't be exciting or fun. Knowing that if you keep your head down and get through eating flavorless sustenance for a while in order to get onto better days and better meals should be enough to keep you going.

I guess I will post one thing that hasn't quite been brought up.
I live in FL at the moment, and can have enough fluke (There are other fish like Reds and specs, but they run with the tide. Fluke/Flounder are ambush predators and always are hungry)to eat for a week in a few hours, and it's quite enjoyable. $30 all in can get you going. Just make sure you dunk your reel in freshwater after every outing. Gulp bait is the key. Pogy, mullet, shrimp... doesn't really matter. Just pick one mainly green and/or white and put it on a weighted jig head. That is all the tackle you need. 1 Gulp bait can catch fish ALL DAY. They are tough and reusable. Just put it back in the pack at the end of the day to soak up more of the slimy attractant in the package.
Just wade out to a shell bed, cast, let it sink to the bottom, and slowly bounce it on the bottom. Once you think something took it, count to 10 slowly and firmly set the hook. If no fish is on, count to ten again and resume bumping along the bottom. Next cast shoot for a few feet to the left or right of the previous one. The key is to keep covering water. There is no point to cast in the exact same spot more than twice. Repeat till you have enough for the freezer.
>>
>>139811522
You can get cheap stuff for less than $1 USD a bottle(using Walmart pricing). Parsley, Garlic powder, Onion salt, Paprika, Salt, Oregano, sage, Cinnamon to name a few. A little bit goes a long way. If you can put aside about $5 a month, there is ample seasoning.
