let just get this out of the way auswitz was not one camp but a massive complex.
it had ordinary POW camps (in which British airmen were also held, and they testified of
atrocities in the nearby extermination camp). Auschwitz II, or Birkenau,
was the largest camp, and the gas chambers were there. Auschwitz III, or
Monowitz, was the industrial manufacturing plant.

In anything but the literal kike sense they were death camps. Prisoners were not treated well and conditions were not conducive to existence, and they had so many bodies of undesirables they didn't care.

Even if you think the holocaust as literal extermination was false, they were still death camps in any reasonable interpretation of the word. If the coming commie revolutionaries put you in there, you'd have no particular skepticism about their purpose, even if you were running a press brake for stamping hammer and sickle trinkets.
