A union is a club you join that does that for you. The middle class bargaining for its benefit is part of the free market. If you're anti-union (ie anti-middle class) then you're anti-free markets.

Not quite. There were some pretty dodgy practices back in the day, and early unions certainly sped up the transition away from them. However, they also quickly became a big business; the bigger the union, the bigger the income. The more political power they gained, the less they actually represented the individual members. And once they started lobbying for government intervention in the economy, the negative economic consequences of unions became more and more apparent.

Modern unions are almost always cancer, and as has been stated, public sector unions are the most cancerous of all.
