They were trying to create an economic outcome by reporting it as impossible, the media can manipulate our economy like that because so much of it is based on perceptions. This failed, because Trump knows this trick and has probably used it often whilst sitting in between business and the media, so he actually did achieve 3% growth (which is crazy high for a developed western country).
