>newfag to current events, but forced to read about them for comparative government class next year.

so how would /pol/ explain why the UK wanted to leave the EU?
>>
the continent has historically been anti-anglo, the EU is no different. the benefits we got out of the EU relative to what we put in were laughable compared to what germany and france got.

but that's not 'the' main reason, there's dozens of reasons and no simple answer.

Because EU was/is working against their interests.
>>
>>139649743
The low IQ masses voted against it.

If you want a serious answer OP, Britain doesn't consider itself to be culturally a part of the rest of Europe. A small number of upper middle class people will identify as 'Europeans' but they are a recent phenomenon. Many British people thus do not understand the benefits of being in a close political union with people who are alien to us.

The EU's freedom of movement policy is the most crucial part of this. This policy has meant that poor migrant workers from eastern European countries have moved to the UK in large numbers in a very small amount of time, settling mostly in post-industrial towns in northern England. The result of this is a loss of community and identity in many towns, and thus ethnic resentment among native English people.

The EU, to your average British person, thus appears to be a foreign influence which not only is responsible for the social decline of your local community, but also has a say over your country's parliament. The fact that the EU can dictate laws to us is extremely offensive to many.

28 nations in the EU.
UK pays 16% at least, more if/when asked, we can't say no at present.
Anything East of the former Berlin Wall is a primitive beggar nation asking for gibs.
For £12BN per year (minimum), we get new repressive laws, an unlimited flow of retard slav squareheads, and ungrateful shitskins, with more to come, and no end in sight as Herr Merkel asks for more.
Does this seem like VFM to you, burger-san?

>so how would /pol/ explain why the UK wanted to leave the EU?

In many ways the same reasons as why America voted for Trump. It was a fuck you towards the Establishment bubble in the capital that had long lost any sense of giving a shit about the provincial population and was solely focussed on importing foreign labour from the rest of the EU, which tends to be far poorer than the UK. Plus, people don't like that the European Court of Justice takes precedence over the UK Supreme Court. America has never limited its sovereignty in any way similar to what member states of the EU do.
>>
>>139649743

because the EU is extremely costly and gives nothing in return for membership, they force countries to accept open borders, and Eu is in the process of federalizing, thus removing sovereignty from member states.

Also, multinational entities is not well equipped to handle local or regional isses, like nations does.
Preserving all the different cultural, traditional and societal aspects of a country should be left to the nation state, not an empire or an international superstate.

>Britain doesn't consider itself to be culturally a part of the rest of Europe.

I dont think anyone does once they realise that identifying as (European) requires one to dismantle ones own culture and thus lose all cultural capital and all future prospects of traditional tourism.

Here's an example for non-EU countries to work out exactly what the problem is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R_(Factortame_Ltd)_v_Secretary_of_State_for_Transport

>unelected Commission creates a common fishing policy in EU state waters
>Spain joins the EU after Franco dies
>Spanish fishermen exploit loopholes in UK merchant seamen registration laws to fish the absolute shit out of British waters
>Spanish company called Factortame register their FIFTY THREE fishing ships as British and fly the Union Jack
>catch fish in UK waters, but land them at home in Spain
>this fucks up the British quota of fish allowed by the EU common fishing policy
>Britain brings in a law closing loopholes in their legislation on fishing registration to protect British cod for fish and chips
>Spanish take UK Government to court via judicial review in UK
>goes up the chain to the Law Lords
>they have to refer the matter to the European Court of Justice sitting in Luxembourg
>"a national court which, in a case before it concerning Community law, considers that the sole obstacle which precludes it from granting interim relief is a rule of national law, must disapply that rule"
>declares UK Parliament and lawmaking no longer sovereign, EU law comes first
>reinstates key principle of EU law from Van Gend En Loos that "the EU constitutes a new legal order of international law for the benefit of which the states have limited their sovereign rights".
>UK government has to pay Spanish fishermen £81 million in damages and interest
