This is correct, Joel Osteen preaches the heretical "prosperity gospel" which essentially says that if you just believe in God then you're going to get rich.

Usually they'll manipulate poor people in their congregation by saying that God will make them extremely rich if they "donate" to the pastor all that they can afford to give.

It doesnt even condemn wealth. The parable of the camel x needle is explaining that no amount of money gets you into heaven, only faith in Christ. The actual takeaway was suppose to be a moral that ran opposite to jewish belief at the time, that wealth was a sign of gods blessing and approval for what you were doing. Christ's message was that the arrogance to believe that your money means anything to god is going to lead you astray.
