Every church I've gone to in my 27 year old life has had community work, similar to charity. My friend's family who went broke with no food or money for christmas used to get help from church.
As far as morals go, church is one of the only source to teach them to society. Philosophy is an elective course. A kid can grow up without church and they get their morals from public school and facebook. Hate all you want, but church teaches love and being a good person not for personal gain.
