Is it worth it?
A friend of mine was in the Army, he went to Iraq, then joined the National Guard when he was done with his contract and was sent back to Iraq. He said he saw action in the Guard.

Is that typical?

I don't know. In the Guard he had to patrol their villages and he said, I think I heard this right, they had to go to each house and take away their guns except the would leave them one. In combat he said you just sort of shoot at random things then call in air strikes.

Don't mind the flag. I am American.
Yes its now typical. The guard is being treated as if it were the reserves and has been for the last decade.
I would still join and when I am back in the US I plan on going Air Guard. They knock 20K off your loans and when not called up you only owe a weekend a month.
I would do it if you are a patriot with a good job or are tied to a specific location.

Nice try
If you don't get shit scores on the ASVAB and choose a decent enough job, you shouldn't have to worry about getting deployed to some shithole.
