Idk, I have been thinking about this lately. I was the "smart one" of the group, I grew up in a traditional family, I went to a great university abroad while my friends stayed behind in Canada to attend university. They are more "blue collar" to put it bluntly. And now that we are all in our early twenties and slowly getting older, I see that they are completely handicapped by their drinking. It becomes a sort of "goal" in and of itself - all they really care about is working just enough at their shitty weekday job so that they can go out and party on the weekends. They don't care about their GPA, about marriage, about their careers, about their future at all. The farthest into the future they can see is Friday evening's inevitable pregame. They are completely fucking themselves over and I don't know how to help them.

But no we shouldn't ban it. It should be celebrated and encouraged far less than it currently is, though.
