How is it that the general public accepts income tax in this modern day, when it was originally created to fund the Civil War effort? Not only that, people are now double taxed on sales, as well. Is it feasible in today's age to abolish the income tax? Or have countries become so reliant on it that it would bankrupt them?
I guarantee the first candidate to run on the platform of abolishing income tax would sweep the nation.

The majority public accepts income tax because they don't pay any of it. The majority accepts gibs that other people pay for in exchange for only a token single-digit of their income, if not less.
