An economy based on endless conquests lost its drive, extremely high levels of corruption and nepotism, a long line of weak/idiotic/depraved/insane emperors, a slave based economy coupled with high unemployment, hugely overextended, armies based more and more around germanic mercenaries, huge migration movements followed by the huns rampaging through Europe, Civil wars, the empire being split down the middle, religious unrest, and so many more factors.
Rome had its time but it fell upon its own sword, mainly due to faults of its own.
