My father had a cousin who worked on the railways in Angola, back during those times. An important piece of machinery was sabotaged, and some negro worker took the fall. He stood up for the negro, defending that he couldn't have the knowledge and technical skills to cause that damage. Never heard anything about who could've been, but it was probably a communist.
He got fired too for plotting. He wrote to Salazar explaining his situation and asking for help. Salazar paid for his trip back to Portugal, and got him a job in the railway company.
