That's not true at all, England had very few rights and doesn't even have the right to non self-incrimination today. America was the first country to have anything like the bill of rights.

It's common knowledge that America's legal system is based off Common Law though.

the US copied almost verbatim all laws up to and around 1774. after that we each in our own way progressed to effectively the same but still indifferent solution to human and intrinsic rights. the US played heavy on commercial and personal freedoms and England heavy on civil and social laws. we, often influencing one another, would assimilate effective parts of each others laws. until ~1950s the US was very much influenced by England (and the rest of the UK-sort of), and still a "middle power." the UK was very-much a world power (but not super).
