United the Right wasn't really organized by /our guys/ but the more openly white nationalists/radical political groups who don't live the kind of double life a lot of people on /pol/ do. Richard Spencer has obviously never paid mind to the optics of /pol/ and has basically sperged in public for as long as he has been relevant and there are other identity groups like identity Europa which are indifferent to optics. Tbh there wasn't much we at /pol/ could do since this event was arranged by the frankly more fringe groups who never have been as psyops savvy as /pol/. Despite the bad media hit I would say Charlotsville was the correction and a lot of the more blunt radicals are going to learn their lesson from that stunt.
