I don't know why you have such an aversion to facts. The actual US census puts it at 72.7% (sorry off by .2%) and either 37 or 40% for non-hispanic white. And again, that is considerably higher than the percentage of whites in Berkeley or other schools.

Oakland is 25.9% non-Hispanic white as of 2010 and decreasing. San Jose is 28.7% non-Hispanic white as of 2010 and decreasing. Fremont is 26.5% non-Hispanic white as of 2010 and decreasing. People from that specific region are the most likely go to to UC Berkeley.

Anyone living outside of that specific region who wishes to go to a UC school is more likely to attend college at a different UC location, such as UC Davis, UCLA, or UCSD. Those other locations are almost certainly also majority non-white due to California's demographics as a whole.

Taken in the aggregate, I would expect there to be moderate over-representation of Asians, under-representation of blacks and Hispanics, and whites close to parity.

I'm not sure I buy this meme. I graduated in 2012 and out of my class only me and 4-5 others went to trade school. A few others went straight into the work force (mostly fast food & retail) and the vast majority went on to university.

2 became doctors, 1 a vet, a few got into STEM, 1 a dentist, the rest bullshit lib arts degrees.

Also, we do not know what percent of California's 18-25 population is non-Hispanic white. As an extreme example, a state could be 70% non-Hispanic white, but if they're all aged 30+ then almost none of them would be attending college. Considering the mass exodus of working-age native Californians and the mass influx of working-age migrants, I would expect some disparity among age groups.

Perhaps you could dig up that specific demographic in the census data.

If you actually are in the top 10% in work ethic and academia then yes, university/college is for you and you will make it.

The problem is that secondary education is so strongly pushed that the majority of people who join aren't part of that and they end up wasting a min of 4 years getting a degree they either can't use to its fullest or get a useless degree just for the sake of getting a degree.

Meanwhile I spent a year and a half in school outside of high school, paid for it all working another job, and made enough to buy a home in a year, and can almost buy a second to rent off.

I'm not sure how it works in each specific area in the US, but pretty much everywhere in Canada other than Ontario and Quebec this is the absolute truth.

Probably depends on the state. I've been to my fair share of universities as well (a lot of family and friend visits). Most midewestern and southern state colleges really are 80+% white. It's when you get to the urban coasts or ivy leagues where it goes down to like 30% white.

3rd-4th year of college you should have a job already waiting for you upon graduation. Taking the time to make this happen will save you 5 years of doing some shit job not related to your field or being a neet until you're lucky enough to find someone willing to hire you.

I see too many people thinking that they'll just get their degree and employers will be swarming them with offers. Unless you're in some super demanding field it's not gonna happen.

Yeah thanks m8. I was supposed to do research this summer but got schlonged by needing to visit family.

I (hopefully) should have a tutoring gig lined up in fall so I'll try to get close with some professors. I just don't connect with the students, my classes are 85% chinese students or so and they all just speak mandarin to eachother (my group for a physics thing last year was me and 3 chinese people, was not a good experiance, they're nice people but they just can't stop themselves from only speaking mandarin to eachother), so I've formed a non-Chinese alliance with one of the 3 or 4 white dudes and some asian kid that isn't at all in touch with his culture.

My father is super well connected, but I'm not trying to piggy back off of him, so I'm going to try really hard to get a researching gig this year.
