North Korea Cycle

The lates missile launch is the beginning of what I call the North Korea Cycle.

Phase 1 is when the North Koreans do something shocking that attracts international attention. This takes the form of missile tests or being tied to assassinations in different countries, or the imprisonment of a foreign national.

Phase 2 is the condemnation phase. This is when everyone condemns North Korea for whatever they did. this then leads right into...

Phase 3. The sanctions phase. In a futile attempt to stop the North Korean nuclear program the UN imposes more sanctions on them. This never accomplishes anything because they've already been sanctioned to the point where they have nothing left to lose. That and the Chinese don't really follow the sanctions.

Phase 4 The Empty threat phase. At this point Kim starts to feel victimized by the international backlash against him, so he starts threatening to destroy the U.S in nuclear hellfire. This will never happen because he knows an actual war with anyone would lead to his total destruction.

Phase 5 The imminent war phase. This is when the media makes it look like that a war with the North Koreans is inevitable and is going to start at any moment. This goes on for a few days until everyone forgets about the North Korean threats. Once everything dies down North Korea will do something controversial again and the cycle will repeat itself.

It's been happening for years and it's very predictable at this point. There will never be a war with the North Koreans because they will never go too far to warrant a military response. And no one wants to invade a country unprovoked as that would make them look like violent warmongers to the rest of the world.as much as I want to see the country liberated, I just can't imagine it actually happening.
