I think part of the problem is that a lot of young anti-establishment radical types are unwilling to see any positive whatsoever with the other side, or agree on anything. Look at how leftypol and other radicals see the alt right, and look at how /pol/ sees anyone left of center.

Both sides see massive chaos happening soon and want to seize power, not come together to form a strong third party.

It's hard to tell with the left. Any identity besides the class identity is fake to them. Some leftists will use nationalist slogans to attract the votes of the patriotic proles, others prefer to bet on shitskins but ultimately I doubt they really believe in national (or shitskin for that matter) identity.
They are having hard time accepting the notion of human nature so it'll be even harder of them to accept the notion of nations.

Strasser was a crypto-bolshevist who instead of trying to seek class collaboration like Hitler did, he instead attempted to aggravate class struggle in a Bolshevist way. The trade unions would sacrifice their ability to strike for state regulated labour rights that would be agreed upon in a chamber of corporations, so that both parties may have a fair deal.
