states rights vs federal rights.
north wanted big government. the south didn't.
ironically it was big government that funded slavery. in a sense slavery was pushed onto the south and continuously funded and supported by the north.

The funnest part is when you realized the feds fucked over the nogs at the same time as Southerners because instead of gradually freeing them ( like they did in the north and elsewhere in the world ) they just released them. Slavery was ugly and outdated. It was an easy way for Lincoln to take the high road and make himself seem like a liberator instead of a tyrant.
