I live in western ny and i support this. Yes NYC does give more to upstate than the other way around, but how much of that is spent on welfare and gibs? All that the current measure will accomplish is that we get our own state government but we'll still share Federal Senators and Representatives with NYC and thus also electoral votes. Not on our own, all we can change is the state constitution which allows us to have 2 governments in our state (what we're voting for). The only way to get separate Federal Representation would be for congress to give us statehood, not quite sure how that would work with two governments in the state as I believe that as it stands the state governor needs to approve any divisions of the state.
