Yeah this is a good idea. Below is a copy of tips for researching from the original OP:


1. Check their Wikipedia, if they have one. If someone’s Wikipedia says they’re Jewish, try to pull the actual links cited on the Wikipedia page (rather than just posting the link to the person’s wiki)
2. Try googling the following: “[Insert Name]” AND “Jewish”. Also try googling: “[Their Twitter Handle]” AND “Jewish”
3. Find out the name of their spouse. Repeat tips 1 and 2 for the spouse. Try to find a wedding announcement for when they married (see if a Rabbi performed the ceremony; also see who their parents were, since that info is usually in the announcement)
4. Find out the name of their family members. Repeat tips 1 and 2 (and maybe 3) for them. See if you can find an obituary for their parents/grandparents. It may say the family used a Jewish funeral home or cemetery.
5. When all else fails, find their Facebook. Surprisingly, their profiles often come up on the first search. If there is too many results for a generic name, narrow the search down by the town they live in or the college they attended (these pieces of info can often be found on their CBS biography page, on their linkedin, on Wikipedia, or generally through google).
6. If their Facebook photos are public, see if any of them provide the needed evidence. Also check if any of the groups they like on FB provide clear evidence (Chabad, Hillel, a particular synagogue, etc.)
7. On their Facebook page, click “Friends” and search for people with the same last name. Find their family member’s names (and repeat tips 1-3 for them on google and then repeat tip 6 for them on Facebook).

You simply cannot account for this level of discrepancies, even when you factor in higher levels of education on average, wealthier upbringings on average, potentially higher IQ's on average, and higher propensity to enter the media industry on average.

It could account for part of it, but it just cannot account for the degree of coincidence in pic related.

As a side note, if that form of argument is sufficient to dismiss a concern about overrepresentation in a particular area of society, why is CBS (and other MSM outlets) so quick to point out how certain institutions are "too white."
