Why did the Germans bomb the town of Guernica during the Spanish civil war? My (mandatory) liberal arts class book is telling me that, "The Luftwaffe was given permission to do a practice bomibng run on innocent civilian populace."

I have every second of its political bias, Uni. is so cucked... I cannot wait to join the military after my four years boys, but what really happened goys? Was this really an unprovoked bombing run?
