They were building up for war, if they had pumped most of the re-armament money into consumption goods their standard of living in 1939 would only have been second to the US. Not externally debt financed either ... and as Japan shows, internal debt is irrelevant with a relatively intelligent government without kikes.

They achieved a high level of autarky while building up an army which could take on most of the great powers in the world ... just not all.
