I started checking him out right at the end of my leftist college smegma started to wash off. I couldn't stand him but I've seen some people I respect vouch for some of his positions or philosophical propositions. Can anyone clear it up? He is smug and hard to listen to. He is in the same tier as Lacan and deluze-guatarri (so far out there that it takes serious effort to follow along- and if you disagree you 'don't understand')

Wrote my thesis on Deleuze. You're right in that he takes a long time and a lot of effort to get into.
Haven't dabbled much into Zizek, but he has two types if works: philosophy for the philosophic community, and then the more general books. Maybe start with the more general ones like First as Tragedy to see if you agree with any of his general observations/arguments before moving into the deeper Hegelian works?
Also, American in Georgia here.
