They have a greater likelihood of winning when other ideas that counter it are suppressed. This is the greatest irony of arguing against free speech because of fear of fascist thoughts, all you are doing is creating an environment where bad ideas have less competition, and you feel comfortable doing this because in this one tiny epoch of time the establishment is on your side. His terrible crime was wrongthink. The idea that the freedom to speech needs regulation is a controlling mechanism utilized by dominant ruling orders to ensure that dissent and criticism cannot get too far out of their control. "Hate speech laws" are mostly put in place and used to enforce geosocial engineering programs.

Regulating speech so that there exists no "hate" is an impossible, fruitless, and tyrannical task because the concept of "hatred and bigotry" can be construed as basically anything disagreeable. Both corporeal and concrete variables that are postulated to play differences can be seen as symbols, objects, paradigms, and ideologies of discrimination. The idea that we can legislate speech to be more 'proper' is a totalitarian concept towards determining social morality.
