Its literally not even complicated. The grammar is a piece of cake. Easier than Latin languages. As for the characters, try writing something over like 20 times and then seeing tht written somewhere 10 times a day. Try forgetting tht. protip: you cant.
>>
>>139147656
The written form isn't the worst of it, there's also that it's a tonal language.

tht only makes it hard for foreigners to learn but babies grow up listening to the sounds so they have no trouble making them. Its pretty natural. Also ppl who speak tonic languages have a higher chance of having perfect pitch
>>
They had 28 different dialects, some with 17 different words for the same god damn concept
It was condensed into a very strict system and it's pretty damn good considering how many different dialects it was drafted from
>>
The characters are not so bad, most of them just consist of 2 or 3 smaller characters copy-pasted together. I learned about 100 of them before I got bored and gave up

Yeah. Reading Chinese symbols has more to do with recognizing strokes than seeing the symbol as a whole.

There are symbols that look nearly indistinguishable when seen as a whole, but are obviously different when you're familiar with how the strokes build up the character.
>>
>>139153394
How do you distinguish between those symbols if they're typed with a computer instead of written?

I am going to try learning Russian this year.
It seems pretty easy so far once past the Cyrillic. The grammar order is similar to English. Hard part sense to be verb conjugation I think because you can have like dozens of different forms. Plus I gotta relearn all general language grammar because I forgot a lot of it
>>
>>139155139
It's possible to get a passive knowledge of Russian fairly quickly. Active is a different story because of the inflections. Verbal aspect isn't difficult, but it just seems weird to a native English speaker if you've never studied a Slavic language. You need to know two verbal roots.

There are usually clues in the typeface that let you know what the strokes are, that combined with context + getting used to the way they're simplified helps as well. There's a certain unspoken style that's adhered to that allows them to intuitively distinguish between not only the shape of the symbols, but also sublties in meaning. Often, not recognizing these subtitles betray a non-native writer almost immediately, since you may be "technically" writing a character correctly, but natives of the language get weirded out by non-native
writing intuition.

For those who want to learn Gook Runes, a good way to do it is using this book:
https://nirc.nanzan-u.ac.jp/en/files/2012/12/RK-1-6th-edition-sample.pdf

This combined with a spaced repetition system like Anki:
https://apps.ankiweb.net/

You should be able to have a basic meaning based understanding in 100 days.(Going at a rate of ~20 kanji a day) You'll also gain an intuitive understanding of how your own memory works as well, kinda bizarre.

Google maps sentences and words when translating between languages as a point on a vector field, attempting to translate it to pure logic before putting it back through another filter. It obviously doesn't work so well with not only two languages so different but also when repeating the same moon rune repeatedly.

Chinese sure as shit isn't advanced. It's composed of very simple phonemes and very simple grammar compared to some other languages. Tones can cause problems but mostly only because it's hard for people not used to using tones when speaking. The only "advanced" part of it is the writing system (and languages and writing systems are two different things) and it's complicated because it's a holdover from before alphabets were a thing. It's basically the modern equivalent of cavemen drawing pictures on walls and it's kept because of tradition.

Logographic writing systems are shit. Abjads are shit.
>>
>>139156328

That's literally the gist fo Confusius philosophy. Keeping them busy learning runes and drawing out in different ways in calliogrpahy, poetry and all sorts of elaborate customs so they would stop killing each other. Not that it works that well. It is almost entirely responsible for the lag in scientific development for thousands of years in China, Korea and Japan.

Japanese and Chinese are completely different. They're not even in the same language family. Japanese only uses kanji because they and China were neighbors for millennia. Same with Korean. All three are very different.

And Japanese uses two syllabic alphabets on top of the kanji.

Really though the fact that both languages can be understood when spoken shows that the kanji isn't necessary for understanding and the only reason it's kept is tradition.

>Yeah, we can invent new symbols tomorrow.

>But we only created like 100 symbols and the other 10,000 are just squishing different combinations together! How will anyone ever learn this?

They truly are the highest IQ race. I can understand why they are going to take over the world.

I used to work in a school helping to train Chinese pilots in America. They come here with money from wealthy families (or I suspect several are spies from the government) to train. They cut every corner and many have had to be deported for fraud. I have heard of students tying down airplanes on the ground then leaving them running so they can run up the hour meter and log the time without actually flying anywhere. Others return to china and falsify their documentations. This is why I strongly suggest to people that if you are going to fly on an airline, always fly American or Europeans or Asian ones like Cathay that have mainly white pilots.
>>
>>139158317
They were on par to Europe in the medieval ages and some time prior to that. However many aspects of their society were still stunted.
>>
>>139157904

>Really though the fact that both languages can be understood when spoken shows that the kanji isn't necessary for understanding and the only reason it's kept is tradition.

Japanese actually has a big problem with homophones due to their method of generating new words for hundreds of years being to adopt an approximation of the Chinese word without respect for dialect or tones.

Some words are generally only used in writing because they'd be too ambiguous in speech.
>>
>>139158941
English is really terse as a language.
>>
>>139158755
It's not as if English isn't unnecessarily complex. We have lots of written words that are pronounced identically, but in written form are given meaning and are distinguished by the symbols we use. "Your" vs "you're" as an example.

There's a disturbing research study out of Boston University, on STD rates among Asian Americans. Professor Hyeouk Chris Hahm led the study, after noticing high STD rates among Asian Americans while working for ten years as a psychiatric social worker.

What she found was troubling:
Moreover, the power dynamic between genders became immediately clear. Asian American women were four times more likely to have a STD than their male counterparts. “This was shocking,” said Hahm, “It was so much higher than the males.”
Accounting for the gender disparity, Hahm suggested that again, culture may be playing a critical role. “Condom use is hard in a culture where women are raised to be accommodating and polite.” She stated, “Asian and Pacific Islander women also have broader interracial dating patterns than Asian American men. This might explain why these women are exposed to higher rates of STDs.”

>Over the course the study, Hahm unmasked some myths common about Asian Americans. She said, “There’s a perception that Asian Americans in particular aren’t practicing sexually risky behaviors. But we found that Asian American young women are at risk of high STDs. For instance, Asian American women had a higher prevalence of STDs than White women in both 1995 (10.4% vs. 7.7) and 2001 (13.5% vs. 8.3%). The incidence of STDs (not diagnosed with STDs in 1995, but developed STIs in 2001) among Asian American women was also higher than that of White women." Moreover, the power dynamic between genders became immediately clear. Asian American women were four times more likely to have a STD than their male counterparts. “This was shocking,” said Hahm, “It was so much higher than the males.” Accounting for the gender disparity, Hahm suggested that...“Asian and Pacific Islander women also have broader interracial dating patterns than Asian American men. This might explain why these women are exposed to higher rates of STDs.”

>two 1 syllable words made out of 4 symbols
>some how more complicated than 2 words made out of 10 symbols
>>
>>139159212
I think these findings definitely go against some prior conceptions about Asian Americans and sexually transmitted diseases. The 4:1 ratio of STDs among Asian American women to men is astounding. To see what this means, I looked up some global data of STD rates around the world, broken down by gender. In East Asia, and on every other continent, women have slightly higher STD rates than men, however nothing comes remotely close to the 4:1 ratio among Asian Americans.

You have to wonder how much of a burden the chink's writing system became during the advent of the renaissance, and more specifically, the PRINTING PRESS.

For thousands of years, different cultures needed dedicated monks/scribes/etc whose sole duty was to copy volumes and volumes of books and scrolls by hand. But then the printing press was invented. Suddenly, it became extremely easy to print tons of written text in mass production.

However, this only really works well because we use an alphabet. Whether you use roman or cyrillic or whatever else, you only have a handful of characters you need to deal with and move around to form words.
But then think about chinese and its logograms. Thousands and thousands of distinct characters for different words. You'd need to have an insane amount of character blocks for a printing press to work with all those characters. That must have stifled their ability to spread information, because they were probably still bottle-necked by the need for scribes to write everything by hand instead.

Oh yes the cheating is very rampant. I believe it is because to Chinese people, life is essentially a game. Cheating to get status and wealth is perfectly acceptable as long as you can get away. Doesn't matter if people know either. So when they come here and cheat and still get certification, to the Chinese that is success. They think "Haha I beat the system I am smart." Problem is that cheating doesn't help you in situations like this.

I'm at about 3 years and production is still a bitch due to the grammar. I can understand written Japanese pretty well now though, and get by in basic conversation (but not quite at native speed).

Yeah, the grammar takes a long time to learn, but once it's learned it'll pretty much stay in your head forever. Words on the other hand, are easy to forget, especially since there's sooo many of them compared to english.

Fake news, and irrelevant besides - you'll never use more than a few thousand of either.

It's conceptually very, very different than western languages. Having a grasp on "classroom speak" is very different than understanding it when used by natives, in native ways, at native speed.

The purpose of cursive over block writing was always speed. Typing on keyboards overtook this function.

It's like saying we should still learn to ride horses after cars exist.
>>
>>139152086
You can do hello there in two long strokes
>>
>>139147965

you got it backwards.

>create very simple language that needs to add entire new characters for new words. wait a few centuries and memorization become ridiculous.
>>
>>139162099
The average Japanese has a native vocabulary of almost double that of a native English speaker. If you want to be able to understand the language above the level of a three year old, you'll have to become familiar, one way or another, with a lot of words.

God, I hate you Chinks, you're all such arrogant fucks and whenever anyone dares to not love you sneaky, boring and deeply unlikeable people, you cry "racism" or insist that there must be a conspiracy.

Those of us who know the mainland Chinese know they're fucking terrible. And Chinese keyboard warriors are all over the Western world's forums and comments sections, trying to tell us how great they are and how great the Chinese government is - and how dumb we supposedly are despite the fact that white people invented literally everything.

Well, guess what faggot - actions have reactions. And here we defeat all trolls, be they Chinese government shills, CTR or cianiggers. And the idea of "Chinese people vely clever" is so ridiculous and stupid, it's very easy to remind you retards of this - webms being among the most effective way.

We memed Trump in to office for free and certain anons are taking time from their lives to remind you that we will never, ever, ever be impressed by you stupid, goofy, stink-breathed fucks.

You Chinks really should back the fuck off and learn some humility before it's too late. After we MAGA, there's gonna be a lot of meme magic energy floating around and we fucking hate communists here. Count your lucky stars we haven't decided to undermine your fucking government already.

You might want to check exactly who that list of "native speakers" includes. Emphasis on "native".
>>
>>139161019
I've always wondered if the chinks' apathy is a result of having such a ridiculous huge population. Like some sort of hivemind negative feedback system where once the population gets too high, people just start apathetically killing each other off for no reason, and then no one else gives a shit watching the person die.

Primary schools are barely able to get the niggers to learn ONE set of writing. And you want them to learn cursive too? Fat chance.

For the record, I did learn cursive as a child. And the only thing I use it for is handwritten letters and my signature. Other than that, everyone learns cursive and then promptly never uses it again because we type now.

But there's a lot more composition going on with Japanese vocabulary (especially Chinese loanwords). Words like 発車 and 入学 which are more specific than English equivalents but probably take less effort to remember their meaning than the average 'word' in English.
