German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned the U.K. on Saturday that it would have to pay a settlement to leave the EU. “This is about obligations that Great Britain has entered into and that naturally must remain on the books,” Merkel said in her weekly podcast published Saturday ahead of the latest round of talks next week, Bloomberg reported.

The divorce bill, or how much the U.K. should pay the EU upon leaving the bloc, is one of the most contentious issues in the Brexit talks. Estimates of the bill have ranged up to €100 billion.

We get blitzed again by the Luftwaffe kek

We'll pay, but it wont be want they want or what we want either, thats a compromise.

We've gonna have to be dong a lot of compromising, I sometimes wonder if its really fucking worth it, I dont mind Europeans at all and i hate the narrative that we dont love Europe ffs, but we are controversial members of the EU, its always been awkward for us.

We had the maastricht and the lisbon treaty, sold to the British public as a wonderful thing, but it was a lie, we should have got a vote back then, now its just 10 x harder.

I blame Major, Blair and Cameron, all 3 fucked us with the EU, All Tory scum, yes Blair is a Tory.

the people who really want to leave the EU, wont care, it will just reinforce there belief that the EU is shit.
The ones who do care about the EU will just realise they`re trying to make an example out of us?
Honestly its better to view brexit is as a bloke breaking up with his gf. He doesnt care and is just watching tv chilling out whilst his ex is crying and screaming and talking to her friends on fb about how she is going to ruin him. Its pathetic.

Biggest benefit scroungers in the UK are the wealthy Boomers, not just with their over inflated pension, but all their BTL properties that they bought for fuck all and now charge OBSCENE rents for

Basically buy to let landlords are the scourge of the UK, we dont have the same rights as you do in France or Germany. So many people just horde property and sell it for more profit or rent and so it goes on, all our MP's have second homes, most of them more and Tony Blair has a 26m London property Empire, no doubt doing nice from the rents.

And who pays these rents, the taxpayer through housing benefit, so more money from the taxpayer to the Boomers.

They just cant lose, austerity was supposed to hurt the rich too, buts its not its made them richer.

they need to be very careful. Its just shit, you cant buy a home here now, you just cant.

in the 90's a 2 bed flat was £60k, average wage was £18k
now a 2 bed flat is £170k average wages is £22k
and everything else has gone up too, food, beer, fags.

Its not fun being poor in a rich country, haha rch my fucking ass we are, some are rich, most of us are in poverty.

Honestly I don't understand why you make it sound like either side is being ridiculous, the whole thing has been pretty sensible so far.

As it stands, you're just imposing retroactive terms in an attempt to scare the shit out of anyone else who might think about leaving your little international hostage situation.

Shit we signed up to like mending Polish roads, building ports in Lithuania or some shit.

And of course paying for unelected presidents.

I didnt mind the EU as a buying group for trade, but when the EURO came out i got worried, a political currency union is more than a common market, we could not sign up.

Like a cancer the EU has infected all aspects of our life, but we will untangle ourselves once we do we will have a team of top class negociaters, brand new deals.

The EU is going to have to do the same becuase there will be a UK sized hole in their buying power, if i was trading with the EU, i would highlight that and push for new deals, better deals.

And wtf is this army meme, its true too they want an Army fucking kek, if i was a conspiracy theorist i would start sounding the alarms bells.

unelected power at the head of a European sized army, and why do they need an Army? The migrant crisis? now would be a good time to say they needed one, the Italians and Greeks and Spanish are just letting them in, teethless to do anything about these niggers coming to their lands, OUR LAND

Most rent contracts have a leave period, in that you still have to pay X months of rent until you can leave. So even if you say "I quit", the contract still holds up.

And similarly if for some retarded reason you signed an additional contract that said you would pay for maintenance and extensions for the next 3 years, guess what, you'd have to pay that.

Then they don't get access to the single market amongst others things which would be very bad economically.
A common argument amongst pro-brexiters is that the UK imports more from the EU than it exports to the EU, and this supposedly puts the UK in a strong negotiating position. This fails to take into account one important fact: UK exports to the EU make up 46% of UK exports, while EU exports to the U.K. only make up 16% of EU exports. The UK has much more to lose if no deal is reached.

>>139134391

I agree with most of what you said. In the end, due to all the compromising, the U.K. will still have to abide by a lot of EU regulations to ensure single market access or a similar arrangement, yet you won't have any say in what these regulations look like because you're no longer represented in EU parliament, commission etc.

>>139134449

It's not simply about setting an example, although it certainly is a factor. It's mainly commitments the U.K. already made in the past which have not yet been paid. The UK cannot simply walk away from commitments it made in the past and let the remaining members split these bills.
>>

Granted it's funny me saying that when May is the current Prime Minister, but at least there's a chance I can vote her like out compared to the EU where it'll devolve into bureaucratic overdrive.

It wasn't even all Confederates, it was the Democratic governments that were mostly still for slavery during the war.

Most Confederate standing military units actually had an Free-Man clause for the blacks serving in support roles in their units. Upon successful completion of their duties, and a positive outcome to the Civil War itself, they were to be granted land and property rights and left to their own devices. There were even cursory plans to grants communal lands in some states, much like an Indian Reservation does (in fact, some treaty mechanics for reservations did come from these formative Confederate documents after the war).

Won't learn any of this in history class, though.

Do you honestly believe this pro brexit propaganda?

Sure the UK has a trade surplus with the EU. But more importantly, 46% of all U.K. Exports go to the EU. Only 16% of EU exports go to the U.K.

That is why the U.K. really wants a trade deal, and it's why the UK will, after a lot of grandstanding, pay a divorce bill.

There's a bit but alright not really that much. Butter, bacon, Lego, insulin and B&O. But all in all, not a big number. Think more of the fact that we share the North Sea, and the average Danish sailor will be more than willing to facilitate a way to the mainland marked.
And as I said, even though we don't have gold mines, we would be able to trade in gold. Our share in the global marked is minuscule. But then, so is our country. So all in all, we're doing OK. Part of this is from trading with Britain, and we will not forget this.

Here your analogy gets more complicated:
You move out and take your room with you, where commonly owned items were placed.

Not deal is bad for everybody. It is the default outcome if other things aren't agreed. Britain will pay what is owed but 100bn seems like a high figure according to most commentary. "After Brexit we will have control over our own borders and immigration."

Serious question: When talking about limiting immigration, I think Brits in most cases think about pakis, blacks etc. But didn't the UK always have full control over immigration from Africa, the Middle East and Asia, even while it was a EU member state?

Nothing like a good visual to really hit home the message that the single market access is extremely important, even with a UK-US trade deal in a few years. Only delusional Brits will argue otherwise. Not even the Torie government is denying this anymore.
