Have you ever deal with extremely strong winds? I'm in Toronto, I've rarely experienced them, but when they do happen - it becomes difficult to breathe and stay on your feet.

Now add to that the factor of extreme rain, and the rivers overflowing onto the streets. A hurricane is basically a melting pot of high wind, rain and water everywhere, animals like alligators and snakes washing up near people. Any little thing can throw you off kilter and then the rest of the equation will exacerbate it.
