Its conversations are its best parts, but the stealth gameplay has aged very badly.

If you want to play an actual stealth-based game that is GOOD, just get Thief.

The story, immersion, atmosphere, soundtrack and level design are all absolutely magnificent. The game has an immense amount of replay value as well. The game is a masterpiece. End of story.

It isn't "dogshit". Yes, it's a bit clunky and awkward, but it very satisfying. Enemies shot with tranquilizers react accordingly and realistically; running around and screaming before passing out. Very wounded enemies will opt to retreat. Running around guns blazing will get you killed instantly. The RPG element of aiming is fantastic. Saying the combat element is dogshit is ridiculous and wrong.

I played it when it was first released.
Everything about it was absolutely amazing at the time.
Not just the story and atmosphere, but the controls, being able to interact with so many objects, and the multiple ways to play every scenario. Even the graphics blew me away.
It's only "clunky and awkward" now, when compared to every improvement that has been made in gaming over the past 17 years.

If I hadn't quit vidya for good, I'd reinstall and play this game.
Of course, I'd mostly be playing for the story,
and I've got plenty of books to read.
