Well, to be fair, the hurricane wasn't there at the time.

Pretty sure a hurricane wiped out the British army after they burned down Washington DC in 1812.

Why haven't America built a wall against hurricanes?

The Romans were wiser when selecting where to build their cities.

So you just posted a pic of New York after hurricane sandy. Let me explain

Sandy was the last hurricane to hit us. Before that it was Irene they year before, which only caused some minor flooding in some lowlying areas. Before that, if I'm not mistaken, was Hugo in the 80s. Also not that bad when it hit us.

Sandy was a 1 in a million chance storm. It was a large storm to begin with, which combines with another storm, in a low pressure front, on high tide, on a full moon. Then some electrical fires in the densely packed NYC neighborhoods caused entire neighborhoods to go up in flames, assuming they didn't get drowned by the hurricane. A lot of people died, because after the freak out with Irene everyone thought this was some media hoax and didn't evacuate. It turns out it was a hoax until the last hour before it hit us
