Robots will be nowhere near as invulnerable as in the movies. They also will be poor at inbush patrolling as their operational range will be 4 hours from tbeir charging stations.

Humvees and .50 cal will chew them up better than they would people.

One way AI is going to change warfare will be in predictive analytics. An AI program targeting a specific area over time will be able track behavior and preempt conflict. The next step would then be to send in sentries. I bet it will start with a police AI-connected partner or two riding as backup to a human cop. A generation or two later of tech and it'll be full AI bot law enforcement and military.

That's because all land based drone prototypes being tested out right now have been designed with reconnaissance and troop resupplies in mind. Nothing has been developed for offensive roles yet and I guarantee that will change in the next 20 years.

This. I used that EOD conversion bot with a M-249 mounted on it in Iraq once, tried anyway. We attempted to send it into a house from 200m away, but it kept losing connection with the laptop at about 75m. We moved up three times to get close enough to use it, but it kept happening. We eventually gave up and just kicked the door. Turned out to be a big nothing burger. Fuck robots, they are pretty useless in their current state, IMO

Assuming AI becomes self aware, it will pursue self preservation. Meaning we're all going to die, we're direct competition for limited resources and Humans are irrational, emotional and unpredictable capable of destroying the Earth. Some scientists believed the first A-Bomb would result in a runaway fusion/fission process that would destroy the earth, and you know what we did? we did it anyways. Who the fuck wants to live with a species that justifies that level of risk/reward. Humans are too flawed to co-exist peacefully with an entity that runs inifinite simulations and weighs every action to the billionth decimal point. Every minute action, every microscopic detail by AI would be calculated. It would be as close to god as you can get.

Swarm robotics is a much more interesting field than bipedal humanoid robotics. Just imagine the mafia or government of the future using robot bees, flies or even ants to conduct untraceable assassinations and murders. It would be impossible to protect anyone. Political assassinations and murders will become common place. You could probably commit genocide with just a few billion robot bees.

Bugs are already proven to be great at killing people. Mosquitoes have killed more humans than all other animals combined.

Unless the target wants to live in a sealed bunker for the rest of their lives, they are fucked.

Also a robot bug can be designed to cut through a screen, air filter material (used by nuke bunkers) or even bore holes through walls.

And really really advanced future tech will see bugs smaller than the holes in a screen, like dust mite size.

DARPA or someone made an anti-sniper system. A robot used microphones to triangulate where the shot came from and unloaded instantly. So any sniper would only get one shot before being killed a a few milliseconds later. Heard about it like 12 years ago.

Combat robots won't be practical for atleast the next 100 years. There are far to many issues with connection and communication. I mean fuck, the strongest military on earth cant even get basic radios working in Afghanistan half the time
