I first learned about Burningman from reading Cory Doctorow's novels.
There was "Little Brother", and the sequel, "Homeland" featured all the characters going to Burningman, where they played DnD with Tim Berners-Lee, saw people 3d print things out of desert sand, and the main character meditated and it was weird, IIRC.

Little Brother was my favorite book in high school because it was all about a high school senior fighting the secret government after a huge terrorist attack that was highly implied to be a false flag. He fights the police state by becoming a deep web blogging personality, and he weaponized actual LARPing.

I loved TELNET, deep web (ar4com legionnaire represent!), and I liked LARPing. Me and my friends were always running around the park with foam swords and masks earning us dirty looks from everyone older than us. Fortunately I grew out of that and am not in Antifa right now.

The second book with burning man was kind of when it started to feel slightly hipstery and californy. Still love those books though.
