As to why this is the case?
Western civilization is currently under a matriarchy. Different countries within western civilization are obviously at different degrees (Sweden being a near 100% matriarchal country), but all are undoubtedly majority female run and controlled.
Given this, most men throughout history have not reproduced (implying a lack of access to sex) and this was under genuine patriarchal societies. The average male has thus lost a lot of power and influence (even over their own lives) and the weakest men seem to be drawn to imitating women in an attempt to grasp some of that power nearly every woman holds in our matriarchal society. It also seems to provide greater access to sex for one who might never have had much access in the first place.
